Govt Model Higher Secondary School Kreeri is Few Minutes drives from the main market Kreeri past the Orchads and Paddy field where Govt Model Hr. Sec. School Kreeri, is located and it is one of the oldest educational institutions in Baramulla district and situated along the Kreeri - Gulmarg road in Baramulla district, has been witness to many upheavals during its history. All through, it has withstood its ground and come out with flying colours. The educational institution is credited with spreading literacy in the area when illiteracy and poverty ruled the area. This Higher secondary, is considered one of the prestigious and old academic institutes in North Kashmir. At present, it has on its rolls is over 1,000 students from Kreeri and Adjacent villages, including over 300 students from Kandi area — a farflung area. The students even travel from places close to the Babareshi area to study at this Higher Secondary.
The institute tries to be ahead in both academic and extracurricular activities. The school is first in area to introduce smart classrooms and digital Atal Tinkering Computer Lab,. The school runs laboratory and Library as well —for the students, the school has all what they expect. “It is a complete institution. Students here have not only been maintaining academic excellence, but also excelling in other activities,” said Maryam, a student of class 12th at the school and a resident of Kalantra. The school continues to be a torch-bearer. One of the Senior Teacher said “our aim is to ensure growth of students, be it academics or extracurricular activities. The focus will be also on sports and other activities,” he said. He added that last year, school has also organized quality cultural programmes, debates and seminars for the students.
“We also try to make students global by the use of latest technology and computer-aided education,” he added. The school’s alumni are many prominent figures, who have proved their mettle in various walks and are placed across the globe.
Late Shujaat Bukhari a Prominent Journalist was also the alumni of this higher secondary. “The significance of this institution can be gauged by the people it has produced. We have so many professionals, including doctors, engineers, professors, Scientists, Journalists, Sports Persons, renowned Poets and entrepreneurs, who shaped their future while being a part of this historical institution,” apart from imparting quality education, they ensured that the pass outs from “our school have excellent manners that make a man”.
