Ramban administration provides financial assistance, ration to needy



Ramban, May 31 (Scoop News)-District administration Ramban has adapted service delivery a new welfare module to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic besides implementing a substantive relief package announced by the government under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) and National Food Security Act (NFSA) to ensure food for all, especially during lockdown.
It was informed that in the district total 289497 souls of 70500 ration card holder families under different categories including 5371 AAY, 16224 BPL, 22699 PHH, 25729 NPHH and 477 EX have been taking benefit from various schemes.
Amidst the different challenges Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs (FCS&CA), Ramban has been conducting a massive distribution of essentials besides undertaking delivery of regular ration supply and free ration to public including migrant labourers and daily wagers.
Department of FCS&CA Ramban, provided 63983 Quintal foodgrains to 287500 regular rationees, 25964 beneficiaries of ICDS, 44244 students under MDM and 382 migrant labourers, during lockdown.
Out of 63983 Quintal ration, department has distributed 31951 Quintal ration free of cost under different schemes among identified poor and destitute families besides students, children, women, migrant labourers and other eligible beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY), WBNP of ICDS, Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme of education department , Atam Nirbhar Bharat (ANB) and Pulses Distribution programme.
Total 44284 ration card holder families of AAY, PHH and BPL categories were provided 28160 qtl Rice @ 5KG each soul per month under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY), 2464 Qtl rice under MDM Scheme, 1298 Qtl rice under Integrated Child Development Scheme and 29 qtl rice under Atam Nirbhar Bharat (ANB) Abhiyan besides 1328 Qtl Pulses distributed free of cost during the lockdown.
Meantime, under National Food Security Act (NFSA), 28704 qtl ration counting 16397qtl rice and 12307 qtl wheat and 2000 qtl Rice under JKFES has been provided to people on subsidized rates through Public Distribution System.
AD, FCS&CA,Abdul Rashid Ganai said that the enactment of the NFSA marks a paradigm shift in the approach to food security from welfare to rights based approach. The act legally entitles large number of rural as well as urban population to receive subsidized as well as relief (free) foodgrains under public distribution system.
As part of the economic response to COVID-19 under PMGKP a pro-poor scheme the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is providing free of cost LPG cylinders to PMUY beneficiaries for 3 months since April 1, 2020.
To facilitate the women folk during lockdown Prime Minister had announced free LPG Cylinders to women beneficiaries of UJJWLA Yojana. The administration has provided 24930 LPG Cylinders to the women of the district under this relief programme.
In order to keep check on price of essentials in the market, department also conducted frequent market inspections and imposed fine of Rs. 99300 on erring traders during lock down besides impressing upon them to adhere guidelines issued by the health authorities to prevent spread of COVID-19.
DC Ramban Nazim Zai Khan informed that FCS&CA in coordination with other departments has evolved a multi-pronged mechanism envisaging adequate supply and regular monitoring of essentials to all in distress with special emphasis on stranded and migrant labourers.
Besides addressing public concerns and issues various measures have been taken up by the administration to facilitate the needy people in this hour of global crisis.
Meanwhile, the authorities are ensuring strict monitoring of availability and supply of essentials like Petroleum, Ration, LPG, Fruits, and Vegetables etc. The concerned have been directed for ensuring availability of sufficient supply of essential commodities during COVID-19 pandemic.
Similarly Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) department workers especially Anganwari functionaries played a pivotal role in fighting against COVID-19 besides performing their regular duties. They helped medics during a door-to-door survey, in screening people for COVID 19 symptoms, during a nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, in district.
During the lockdown 1298.7 qtl rice and other prescribed nutrient items have been distributed among the beneficiaries of ICDS with the involvement of PRIs.
Pertinent to mention here that ICDS has provided ration and other nutrition items worth of Rs.2.88 crore procured by the PRIs under the guidelines issues by the government and keeping in view local requirements to 26139 targeted beneficiaries including 18799 children, 832 adolescent girls, 3049 pregnant women, 3459 nursing mothers under Wheat Based Nutrition Programme (WBNP) in the district during the year 2019-20.
ICDS has also disbursed Rs.1.26 crore financial assistance on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode among the 3090 beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Matritav Vandana Yojana – PMMVY across the district Ramban.
Pertinent to mention here that PMMVY is a maternity benefit programme offered by the government of India under which a cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 is provided to pregnant women and lactating mothers in three installments.
Under the scheme the first installment of Rs. 14.45 Lakh has been provided to the 1445 beneficiaries after registration of their pregnancy report at the Anganwadi Centres or other authorized offices an amount of Rs. 1000 to each registered woman.
Likewise, an amount of Rs. 61.80 lakh has been disbursed as 2nd installment, Rs. 2000 each among 3090 beneficiaries after their at least one Ante-Natal Check-up following 180 days of LMP and 3rd installment of an amounting to Rs. 49.96 Lakh has been disbursed among 2498 beneficiaries after a child has received First Cycle of Immunizations of BCG, OPV, DPT and Hepatitis-B or its equivalent/ substitute post birth.
The incentive is provided for the first living child of the family for fulfilling the specific maternal and child health conditions.
Meantime recognizing the hardships being faced by the Stranded Labour and Daily Wagers, the administration has also provided ration and cooked food to local NGOs for further distributions among them free of cost along the national highway.
