Meanwhile J&K spokesman for Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Altaf Thakur, on Thursday strongly condemned the deadly attack on a BJP affiliated Sarpanch, Sajad Ahmed Khanday, by militants in Vessu area of Qazigund, Kulgam. While terming it as a barbaric and inhuman act Thakur urged police to ensure the security of Sarpanchs and Panchs across the valley.
"The police should work out a security cover model for the Sarpanchs and Panchs of the BJP and other parties across Kashmir, who are vulnerable to attacks. Today's killing of one of our associates is very unfortunate. He was our constituency president for Vessu," Thakur said.
"Today's incident is the second such attack on any BJP affiliated member in the same area in the past three days. On August 4, militants fired at Sarpanch Arif Ahmed in an adjacent village of Akhran Meer Bazar area who is battling for life at SKIMS, Soura,” Thakur added.
Thakur further appealed the police top brass, especially DGP Dilbagh Singh and IGP Kashmir, to look into the issue and work out a security cover model for the vulnerable sarpanches and panchs, especially those affiliated with the BJP.
“The list of Sarpanchs, Panchs, and other activists who are vulnerable to militant attacks has already been submitted to the police. I urge the police top brass to immediately provide a security cover to those who are under threat,” Thakur further said in a statement issued in the wake of the killing of a BJP affiliated Sarpanch.

On the other hand four more BJP members from Kulgam have resigned from party today which includes BJP's District Secretary for Kulgam Nisar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Kellem, District General Secretary Shahzad Ahmad Bhat of Chowgam, party workers Mohammad Ayoub Ganai, a resident of Banghal Kulgam and Gul Mohammad Ganai, a native of Chandien Kulgam.

Another independent Sarpanch Mohammed Iqbal Dar of Chandien Kulgam has also resigned from the post of Sarpanch as according to him it didn't fetch him anything being a Sarpanch since more than a year now and he is more concerned about the safety of his family.

All the four BJP members and the Independent Sarpanch sought forgiveness from the public for their past and claimed complete dissociation from the party or the posts they were holding. (CNS)It's Raining Resignations for BJP in South Kashmir
