GEC LAHDC Kargil chairs meeting on role of youth in promotion of tourism in Kargil
Appreciates initiative of Team Rzongi Kor for exploration of mysterious cave in Sharchey village
Kargil (Ladakh), September 21(Scoop News)- Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan chaired a meeting on the role of youth in promotion of tourism in the district at Tourist Facilitation Center Bemathang here today.
Chief Executive Officer Kargil Development Authoruty (KDA) Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani , Assitant Director Tourism Kargil Aga Syed Toha , Assistant Executive Engineer KDA Haji Muhammad Siddiq, Tourism Expert Muhammad Hamza and Anayat Ali Shotopa besides the team members who recently explored the Rzongi Kor Cave in the frontier village Sarchay in Batalik Sector were present in the meeting.
Team Rzongi Kor through a detailed power point presentation apprised the CEC Kargil about their findings about the cave. The team members also presented a trailer of the documentary on the cave which is under production.
The team enlightened the meeting about the enormous potential in terms of expansion of sites of tourism interest in the district.
The Rzongi Kor Team, comprising of Arif Ladakhi, a local resident of Sharchay village, Fayaz Ali Architect, Zakir Hussain Jaffari Film Maker and Hotelier, Sadiq Ali Mountaineer, Kacho Ahmad Khan NSDite, Asgar Ali Hotelier and Tourism Expert and Iftikhar Barvi Cave Explorer along with local volunteers had recently conducted a comprehensive exploration of the Rzongi Kor Cave, which is believed to be the longest natural cave in the entire Ladakh region.
Fayaz Ali Architect who had initiated the exploration trip said that there were many mysteries hiding in the mountains of Ladakh particularly the caves which have the potential to attract large number of tourists further adding that the team travelled around one kilometre deep in the cave which the villagers believe is six kilometers long.
Fayaz pointed out that this cave could be the longest cave in Ladakh and along with other caves all over Ladakh, Cave Tourism could be propagated in the region.
Meanwhile, Arif Ladakhi said that along with promotion of tourism it was essential to consider the sentiments of the villagers attached to these caves. He said that the cave has special importance in the cultural history of the village. Giving further details about the cave he said that folklores have it that the cave has four openings one each in Sarchey, Batalik, Chiktan and one across the border. He further informed that the cave is located around 8 kilometres away from Batalik village and need a trek of 1 and half hours to reach there.
Appreciating the efforts of Team Rzongi Kor, CEC Khan urged them to pursue their exploration and research work with similar level of zeal and commitment which would open up new vistas for promotion of tourism in the district.
The CEC also said that with large number of young professionals joining the mainstream it was high time that the tourism scenario in Kargil ought to change for the better. He also urged the private players to up the ante in this regard and work unitedly with the government machinery.
CEC Khan also directed the Tourism Department to promote the cave by producing literature about It in the form of pamphplets and brochures besides also ensuring the completion of the documentary that is being presently produced by Rzongi Kor team on voluntary basis. He also directed the CEO, KDA to team up with the youths and try to explore more such areas.
Counting the initiatives of LAHDC, Kargil for promotion of tourism particularly border tourism in Batalik area, Feroz Khan said that in order to provide better connectivity, the Silmoo-Sharchay Road stands sanctioned at a cost of Rs 4 crores and tendering process to kick start works on the construction of the road has already been completed.
The CEC further said that a war memorial titled Batalik War Memorial is also coming up in the region in addition to other tourism promotion projects. He also asked the young Rzongi Kor team to contribute their ideas with regard to the establishment of the war memorial.
Later, a brief document about the cave was also presented to the guests by the Rzongi Kor Team....
