Workshop on Molecular Biology Techniques held at CSIR-IIIM (Br.) Srinagar


Srinagar, October 14 (Scoop News)- As part of CSIR-Skill development initiative, a three-day workshop was conducted on “Molecular Biology Techniques” for faculty members, Ph.D and PG students of biotechnology at Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Division of CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Branch Srinagar, from 12.10.2021 to 14.10.2021. In this workshop a total of 17 participants have undergone hands-on-training on different molecular biology techniques like gene cloning, conventional PCR and real time PCR. The aim of the workshop was to strengthen the research fraternity of the Kashmir valley in terms of knowledge and skills.

On the first day of the workshop Dr. Muzamil Ahmad, Deputy Head and Principal Scientist, in his welcome address stressed on the need to conduct such workshops for exchange of ideas and learning new techniques. Dr. Qazi Parvaiz, Principal scientist, gave a detailed report about research mandate of the institute whileas Dr. Nazia Abbas, Scientist, delivered a lecture on, “Molecular cloning and its applications” which was followed by practical session.

On the second day, Dr. Nasheeman Ashraf, Senior Scientist delivered a lecture on “Principle and applications of Real Time PCR”. This was followed by practical session and data analyses.

On the third day of the workshop, the participants were taken to visit of different labs where they interacted with the Scientists & Students to get an overview about the research activities going on in the institute.

This workshop was organized by Dr. Nasheeman Ashraf and Dr. Nazia Abbas, the two women scientists of CSIR-IIIM branch lab. Srinagar, under the patronage of Dr. D Srinivasa Reddy, Director CSIR-IIIM and under supervision of Er. Abdul Rahim, Head RMBD division and Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Head branch laboratory Srinagar. The programme concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants.
