Killing of a youth sends shock waves across Himalayan region
religious, social and political leaders express deep sorrow and remorse, urge police to enforce law and order strictly



Leh(Ladakh), April 24, (Scoop News)-Killing of an adolescent following a brawl between two inebriated groups of youth has shocked Ladakh region where committing of heinous crime is unexpected to the people and place.

Shell shocked natives of the Himalayan town observed complete shutdown on Tuesday and strongly condemned despicable act. The shutdown call was given by religious and social groups including Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Anjuman Imamiya, and Christian Association over the gruesome incident.

While expressing their outrage, the leaders resented the functioning of law enforcing agency for having allegedly failed to maintain law and order. They also urged law enforcing agency to maintain labour verification register to ensure incident free region.

All shops, commercial units and business establishments remained shut which brought life to standstill and entire town wore a deserted look.

“A region that has been known for peace and amity is witnessing anger and rage leading to the death of an innocent youth. It is very unfortunate,” Nawang Rigzin Jora, a senior Congress leader and former minister, told Scoop News.

According to the police, on the intervening night of April 20 and 21, a scuffle took place between two groups of youth inside a restaurant after that they once again clashed in main market where three youth sustained stab wounds.

They were immediately shifted to Sonam Narboo Memorial Hospital (SNMH) where one of them namely Thinles Nurbu native of Kharnakling succumbed to his wounds.

An First Information Report (FIR) No 34 under Sections 302, 307, 324, 506, 34 RPC in this connection at police- Leh, police said adding that police parties raided different locations and succeeded in arresting all the accused from different places.

“All of them are below 25 years of age and were under the influence of liquor when they committed the crime. Even the weapon used has been recovered from the house of the main accused,” police said.
