PDP lawmaker seeks Centre’s intervention for providing upgraded civic amenities for displaced KPs
a delegation of migrants briefs Union MoS- Home about their return to Valley

New Delhi/ Srinagar, July 20, (Scoop News)-Raising the issue of displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the Upper House of the Parliament (Rajya Sabha) during zero hour on Friday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, Nazir Ahmed Laway, has sought Centre’s intervention for providing upgraded civic amenities for those living in appalling conditions in dilapidated tin sheds in Valley.
He said the Pandits were living in abysmal conditions in different parts of Kashmir and demanded proper residential accommodation for those who have returned to Kashmir in pursuit of their vocation.
“They are facing difficulty as they have no suitable facility to stay there,” Laway said adding that there were instances where newcomers had been forced to share accommodation with the occupants which is ignominious.
Urging Centre to take ameliorative measure to improve the lot of displaced Pandit community, Laway said the transit camps didn’t have any playgrounds for the children and public convenience for the elderly persons.
Incidentally, a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits led by Satish Mahaldar called on the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home, G Kishen Reddy on Thursday. He assured them that the government was taking all necessary measures to support them return to their place of origin and indicated that proper security arrangements would be put in place for them.
The delegation informed the minister and his team of officials led by the Joint Secretary (J&K Desk) of the meetings they had with religious, separatists and mainstream politicians in Kashmir.
They briefed the minister that there was a general opinion building in Kashmir that Pandits should return to land of their ancestors and said that 419 displaced families had expressed their willingness to return to Kashmir valley.
After meeting the minister, the Pandit delegation said in a statement that the government was committed to safe and secure return and rehabilitation of the community back in the Valley and it is soon going to take steps in this regard.
The delegation urged the minister to set up clusters in Ganderbal, Srinagar, Baramulla, Badgam, Anantnag and other districts in Kashmir to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Satya Pal Malik, indicated that a policy for the return of displaced Kashmir Pandits was being drafted.
In an informal chat with media persons on the sidelines of a function, he said the further details in this connection would be made known to all shortly. ...
