Kounsar Nag pilgrimage in south Kashmir on August 5 coinciding Nag Panchimi
displaced Pandit groups express grave concern over grabbing land of temple and shrine properties in Kashmir
Reasi/Aharbal, July 22, (Scoop News)-Several Kashmiri Pandits staying at present in the Valley are undertaking pilgrimage to Kounsar Nag during first week on next month. The special prayers will be held on the banks of the lake on August 5 (Monday) coinciding Nag Panchmi.
A similar pilgrimage will also commence from Reasi from August 2 when pilgrims along with sacred mace will leave via Chasana route. Scores of pilgrims are expected to participate in the annual pilgrimage to the sacred lake.
Kounsar Lake is among several high altitude lakes in Kashmir valley where Kashmiri Pandits undertake pilgrimage every year. The lake is 30 km from the base camp near Aharbal. The overnight stop is at Kongwattan area before undertaking a vertical climb and then a steep descend up to the lake.
The lake filled with crystal clear glacial waters and covers an area of over five kms in length and two and half kms in breadth.
Meanwhile, several Kashmiri Pandit organizations have expressed grave concern over grabbing of temple land belonging Shiv Ji Temple and its property at Karapora Khushki, near Rainawari is Srinagar by the local land mafia.
The situation has surfaced when the State High Court has directed the authorities to take the suo moto cognizance of the forced land and property sale of religious places belonging to the displaced community.
They said the community members will be forced to come on roads and launch agitation if the case is brushed aside and put under the carpet. They appealed to all socio- political and religious groups to come together to defeat the forces that are indulging in anti social activities by hurting religious sentiments of the minority community.
The displaced Pandit groups stated that as a community they were being haunted in a systematic manner by usurping their religious heritages of Kashmir Pandits in the form of temples and shrines are not spared by the goons.
They said that large number of temples and shrine properties had been encroached with conveyance of local administration and the latest being the encroachment of Shiv Ji Temple which is 150 years old at Rainawari and no action has been taken against the persons responsible of it....
