Gupta assails J&K Govt, Centre for letting down people in grim COVID times

Jammu, September 25 (Scoop News)-Senior National Conference leader and Former MLC Mr Rattan Lal Gupta today assailed the administration for letting down people in the most challenging COVID times, saying deficiency of oxygen and lack of ventilators has emerged as cause of grave concern.

“Alarming reports of deaths due to deficiency of oxygen has shattered the faith of the people in the system and health services, notwithstanding the fact that frontline corona warriors like doctors, paramedics and the support staff were doing excellent job at the peril of risk to them and their families”, Mr Gupta said in a statement issued from Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this afternoon.

Mr Gupta expressed surprise that despite widespread anguish and concern among the people, the government seems to be in deep slumber, preferring issuing statements instead of doing something credible on the ground. Same is the case with the central team that made much fanfare about the visit to Jammu and Kashmir but failed in putting the system on rail. The representatives from the Jammu region in Parliament too have let down the people by not asserting and getting the system moving in the larger interest of patients. The Centre has miserably failed in rising to the occasion during the most turbulent times of COVID, he added.

The former MLC regretted that the government did not anticipate the gravity of the situation and failed in making contingency plans to fight the pandemic that is spreading at a fast pace. There should have been some effort in roping in the private sector and utilizing the spaces of various institutions for setting up temporary corona hospitals. He urged the administration to appreciate the sensitivity of the situation and make required arrangements to fight the infection, he added.

Mr Rattan Lal Gupta sought putting in place all the oxygen plants and making similar facilities functional in the associated hospitals and other peripheral health institutions on war footing. The people must know what the government is upto in dealing with the situation, he added.

He expressed solidarity with all those suffering from the infection and wished them early recovery. He also shared the agonies of those who have lost their dear ones due to pandemic.
