Leh, November16 (Scoop News)-The Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, graced the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024 celebrations as the Chief Guest at Leh Market.
The event was organized by the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the Ladakh Academy of Arts, Culture, and Languages (LAACL), UT Ladakh.
The occasion marked the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, honoring his immense contributions to the tribal community and nation-building.
Prominent dignitaries, including Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk; Commissioner/Secretary, Social and Tribal Affairs, Padma Angmo; Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve; Director, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, Tashi Dolma; Deputy Secretary, LAACL, Tsewang Paljor; Presidents of Women’s Wings of religious organizations; district officers; President of Ladakh Theatre Organization, Mipham Otsal; renowned folk singer Mohd Ali; along with artists and a large gathering of people, attended the event.
The Hon’ble CEC highlighted the pivotal role of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in shaping India’s tribal identity and development. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of honoring the contributions of leaders and personalities in nation-building. He underlined the vital role of Birsa Munda in advancing tribal welfare and upliftment.
The Hon’ble CEC praised the contributions of Ladakh’s lone freedom fighter, Munshi Abdul Sattar, recognizing his role in India’s freedom movement from Ladakh. He also acknowledged Abi Yangchen Dolma, alias Ama Chocho, for her active role during Union Territory status for Ladakh, noting that even in her later years, she continues to contribute to Ladakh’s development.
The CEC urged society to ensure inclusive platforms to celebrate the achievements of marginalized communities. He commended PM Narendra Modi’s efforts in granting Union Territory status to Ladakh, which has provided new opportunities for Ladakh’s representation in various fields.
He thanked the Social and Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, for their initiatives, including scholarships, senior citizen cards, and other welfare schemes, and encouraged the public to avail themselves of these benefits. He mentioned LAHDC’s efforts to provide housing assistance and funds for underprivileged familie.
The CEC emphasized the UT Administration and LAHDC’s commitment to supporting students preparing for civil service examinations through scholarships. He expressed his vision for Ladakh to emerge as a model Union Territory, showcasing holistic development.
In a significant step towards healthcare outreach, the Hon’ble CEC praised the Vision Himalaya project, which launched a mobile cancer screening bus to serve rural areas. He congratulated the Director and team for their collaboration with LAHDC in this endeavor.
During the event, the Hon’ble CEC, alongside other dignitaries, launched the Senior Citizen Card Portal and distributed pensions and scholarships to beneficiaries. He also flagged off the Mobile Medical Unit by Vision Himalaya for cancer screening in remote regions.

The celebrations featured vibrant cultural performances, including Lharna, Nyopa dance, Stendel Sumpa, Balti Gyang Lu, Aryan folk songs, Shondol songs and dances, Jabro songs, and the Tashispa song and dance, reflecting Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage.
During the event, the live telecast of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's speech, delivered on the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary Year celebration of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as part of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas from Jamui, Bihar, was also presented.
