CUKashmir pays tribute to founding VC Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi

Ganderbal, November19 (Scoop News)- The Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) held condolence gatherings across its campuses to honour the memory of its founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi, who passed away on Sunday.

The meetings, organized at the Green Campus, Tulmulla Campus, Arts Campus, and Nunar Campus, witnessed participation from faculty members, administrative staff, research scholars, and students. Attendees fondly remembered Prof. Qureshi’s immense contributions towards the establishment of the CUKashmir and its academic growth and progress and paid heartfelt tributes.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s condolence message, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, conveyed the profound grief expressed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath. The message described Prof. Qureshi’s demise as a moment of deep mourning and reflection, emphasizing his transformative vision, unwavering dedication, and pivotal role in establishing the university on strong academic and administrative foundations.

Speaking at the gathering, Prof. Shahid Rasool highlighted Prof. Qureshi’s stature as a distinguished economist and visionary leader who was instrumental in shaping CUKashmir’s identity. “His leadership and unwavering commitment to academic excellence laid the foundation for the institution’s success,” Prof. Rasool remarked.

Dean of the School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, hailed Prof. Qureshi as a pioneer whose foresight shaped the university’s path. “As a founding leader, he designed the roadmap for CUKashmir’s growth. His tireless efforts were pivotal in fostering an environment of learning and innovation,” he noted.

Registrar Prof. M. Afzal Zargar, in his message, affirmed the university’s commitment to upholding Prof. Qureshi’s legacy. “His humility, wisdom, and generosity earned him deep respect from all who worked with him. His enduring passion for education will inspire our journey forward,” he said.

Several faculty members shared personal anecdotes, recalling Prof. Qureshi’s humility and noble character. They praised his remarkable ability to inspire and unite people, leaving an indelible mark on the university’s history.

In a message of solidarity, the faculty and staff extended their heartfelt sympathies to Prof. Qureshi’s family. “We stand with his family during this difficult time and pray for the eternal peace of his soul,” they said.

Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi’s unparalleled contributions to academia and the institution will remain a guiding light for the Central University of Kashmir as it continues to build on the foundations he so passionately established.
