Chamber leadership actively pursuing India's cause at Glasgow

Jammu, November 02 (Scoop News)-ASSOCHAM delegates participating in the COP-26 lauded five ambitious commitments, including achieving carbon neutrality by 2070, made by Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Glasgow Summit on Climate Change.

''The Panchamrit, the five major commitments, made by the Prime Minister, lay out a specific roadmap for climate change mitigation by India. These targets are feasible and will drive India’s climate actions forward." ASSOCHAM President designate Mr Suman Sinha said at Glasgow.

Mr Sinha who is attending COP26 along with Secretary General Mr Deepak Sood said, “meeting 50 per cent of the country's energy requirement by reaching 500 GW by 2030, and the commitment to bring the carbon intensity of our economy down by more than 45 per cent, required conviction and confidence in our capabilities. I am thankful to the honourable Prime Minister for reposing his faith in the ability of the Indian corporate sector to meet these goals”

The ASSOCHAM Secretary General said, '' it is now up to the developed nations to walk the talk and ensure that the issue of climate finance is addressed fairly. The developing nations would require huge financial resources and technology transfer for making planet greener. The USD 100 billion per year commitment by the developed world should be honoured and even raised ''.

Mr Sood said over and above the specific targets, India's ethos of protecting the nature and adaptation of the lifestyle of common people was well articulated by the Prime Minister in his call for the Life For Environment (LIFE).

ASSOCHAM would be participating in various events at the Glasgow Summit along with its partners.

ASSOCHAM has been mobilising local businesses and communities to tackle climate change through actionable, real-world solutions and recommendations on cost-effective, sustainable business practices. We are sharing recommendations on manufacturing in the clean energy space.
