Preserve, promote rich Dogra heritage: Sham Sharma urges youth
Disseminate the richness of Dogra culture and language across the nation and abroad - Purnima Sharma


Jammu, January 12 (Scoop News)-Sham Lal Sharma, former minister and J&K BJP Vice President has emphasized upon the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and it is the youth who must come forward and work relentlessly as ambassadors to promote the rich Dogri language.
He was speaking at the Rashtriya Yuva Diwas and Lohri Milan programme organised at Mubarak Mandi here today. Today’s programme was organized by Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor along with Mahant Rohit Shastri, President Baba Kailakh Devsthan Trust and Bunty cartoonist.

In his address, the Sham Sharma recalled the contributions of Swami Vivekananda for the society as a dynamic youth reformist. He also asked them to follow the teaching of Swami Vivekananda.
Sham Lal Sharma said that Dogra cultural heritage is the identity of the people of Jammu and we cannot afford to lose our identity. He appreciated the efforts of youth in different fields for keeping the Dogra culture alive through their relentless performances at National and International level. He recalled said that it was Atal Behari Vajpayee who facilitated the entry of Dogri language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution of India for which full credit goes to him and the party. He asserted that Bharatiya Janata Party will leave no stone unturned in preserving Jammu’s identity i.e. Dogra culture and heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor appealed to the youth to disseminate the richness of Dogra culture and language across the nation and abroad to make the people aware about the niceties of this old yet rich heritage through their performance in various fields including theatre, folk lore and folk music, Dogri songs, literature, etc. He also appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support and encourage the local rather Dogra artists so that they can also grow and achieve new heights in their respective fields of art and will make every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir feel proud.

Addressing the gathering, Ashok Koul, General Secretary Org, BJP J&K said that the youth of J&K should ensure substantial participation in the cultural activities to highlight the Dogra tradition and rituals of which Dogri language is an inseparable part. He said it will serve as a valuable guide for advancement towards a brighter future bearing the tag of Dogra identity which is through and through full of rich cultural heritage. He asserted that while BJP stands committed to extend every type of support to the Dogra youth, but at the same time every individual rising above party and other affiliations needs to come forward to work for this significant cause.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu Prof. J. P Sharma said that Children prefer to speak other languages such as Hindi and English in schools , colleges and universities as they have pressure from the School authorities and from the career point of view. The so called ‘English medium schools’ encourage them to speak English on the campus and elsewhere to brighten their prospects for career in Civil Services and other areas.But it must be remembered that the eclipse of Dogri means delinking of our rich Dogri culture. Though the Government has introduced this language at Hr Sec level, it cannot be promoted unless parents encourage their children to speak it at home. But it is a tragedy that the children of even the stalwarts of Dogri prefer to converse in Hindi or English at home.
Director Agriculture Jammu K K Sharma and Prof Madan Mohan Jha Director Sanskrit University also spoke on the occasion.
During the programme, Sham Lal Sharma along with other dignitaries felicitated who have worked relentlessly for the promotion of Dogri language.
