"Lathi-charge on Public in Budgam is a Shameful Act by the Administration": Sawhney
"Martyrdom of a Young Kashmiri Pandit within Government premises is a Huge Security Lapse": Sawhney

Jammu, May 13 (Scoop News)-Former Minister J&K and senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney on Friday in a statement lashed out on the J&K Administration condemning the action of the police against the Kashmiri Pandit protesters in Budgam. Terming the act 'shameful and brutal', Sawhney said that the government has stooped so low that they have now resorted to violence against peaceful protesters and use of brute force to suppress the voices of our people. The targeted killing of an innocent Kashmiri Pandit man inside a government office was the result of a huge security lapse and the community is enraged by this immense loss. We pray for his soul and his family and at the same time urge the government to bring him and his family justice. It shocks us that instead of standing with the family of the man, the government is administering lathi-charge and tear-gas shell attacks on the protesters. BJP has created a 'new India' where people are beaten, tortured and their voices are muted by an oppressive government that cannot stand for truth at all, said Sawhney.

Further speaking on the matter, Sawhney said that the statements made by PM Modi on 5 Aug, 2019 mean absolutely nothing. We were promised progress and prosperity. We were promised freedom from militancy and security. We were promised that the BJP would strive to rid Kashmir of militant tensions. The situation, on the other hand, worsened in Kashmir, despite the rosy picture painted by the government itself, and militancy has been emboldened, which is clear from this incident. A young man is shot in his own office and martyred within the premises of a government office. The people have been forced to step out on the streets to fight for their safety and security, and the for the family. The people who came out on the streets to lodge their protest only sought to bring the culprits of this horrendous crime to justice. For what purpose, did the police beat them up and throw tear-gas shells, asked Sawhney. They're running the country on fear and terror, he said.

The LG, Sawhney further added, has not addressed this issue. While he is taking stock of apples and fake figures to imitate the idea of progress in J&K, the real situation is completely opposite and the administration has paid no heed to our concerns. The protesters had demanded that the LG, the divisional commissioner and deputy commissioner of Budgam district to come and hear their complaints regarding their safety in the valley. However, no government official and no political representative from the administration or the party at power showed up. There has been absolutely no support from the side of the government. On the other hand, police is using lathi charge to break up a group of peaceful protesters. We strongly condemn the actions of the government, the administration and the police. Further, we urge the administration to take stock of people's concerns and bring the culprits of the militant act to justice.

'Another young man has lost his life and a family lost a son, a brother, a husband. But this means nothing to the government. How will the government protect the people, the minority', questioned Sawhney. It is shameful that the government would rather use their muscle power to suppress the people, as they did in dispersing a harmless peaceful protest, and not in catching the terrorists. Resorting to use of force on public is not the sign of a democracy. India is plummeting down the slope of democracy toward an oppressive and tyrannical regime, he added.

'We severely condemn the lathi charge on the group of protesters in Budgam and urge the government to see sense and divert their energies towards the protection and safety of people, and bringing the culprits to justice', Sawhney stated.
