CITU expresses grief over Ramban tunnel collapse incident
Demands specialized free treatment to the injured and ex-gratia to the families of deceased

Srinagar, May 21 (Scoop News)-State President, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has expressed deep shock and grief over the collapse of a tunnel at Khoni nallah area of District Ramban in which four labourer died, three rescued and several others feared dead are trapped under the debris.
Ramban-Banihal stretch of the national highway, which is a vital surface link between Kashmir and the rest of country, could not be constructed despite several deadlines and thus there is a lot of resentment among the local population.

Reportedly NHAI has handed over execution of the work of this patch to SIGAL company which in turn has handed over execution work to a little known sublet SARLA, which is reportedly a software company and not technical.

Divisional Commissioner and other senior officers should have visited the spot.

Reportedly the debris was not cleared at the site and without scientific evaluation of the soil, the construction work was started.
The company and the administration are having vested interests and have not paid attention to this stretch.
This is not an ordinary incident but there seems criminal negligence.

1. A judicial inquiry be ordered to probe the horrific incident so that guilty is identified and brought to justice.
2. Compensation to the tune of Rs 40.00 lac for the deceased labourers.
3. Specialized free treatment to those injured in the incident.
