| Awareness events, pledge ceremonies organized across Jammu Division | | Stakeholders bat for sustained campaign to end menace |
Jammu, June 26 (Scoop News)- The district administrations, Educational Institutions, social organisations across Jammu Division on Sunday unequivocally advocated for a sustained campaign to end the menace of Drug abuse which has assumed alarming dimensions in the society.
Series of informative, supporting and cultural events were organised across the region to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The day witnessed holding of seminars, awareness cum interactive events, pledge taking ceremonies and awareness rallies to reaffirm the resolve to fight the menace before it is too late.
The Speakers called for a proactive and sustained campaign at all levels to take the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking to its logical end.
At Ramban: The Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Education and Health Department organised a seminar here at Government Model Higher Secondary School. Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam presided over the event.
Similar programmes were also held at Sub-division, Tehsil and Institution level in Gool, Banihal, Ramsoo and Batote.
The students and guest speakers including CMO, Dr. Kamal Zadoo and Psychiatrist Dr. Ishan delivered thought provoking lectures on hazards of Drug Abuse and rehabilitation of addicts.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the civil and police administration was exploring the possibilities for establishing a Drug De-addiction Centre in district Ramban.
The District Social Welfare Officer administered a solemn pledge to participants for taking initiatives to eradicate the menace of drugs from society.
At Rajouri: The International Day of drug abuse and illicit trafficking was today observed in Rajouri with the theme, 'Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises.' The event was organised by the Social welfare department in collaboration with the District Administration and presided over by Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal.
An awareness nukkad Natak was presented by the artists of the Rangmanch theatre group. The artists made parents/audience aware of drug abuse and its ill effects on health and society.
A number of speakers spoke during the event and highlighted the importance of the day.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on the prevention and curability aspects of drug addiction and asked the concerned stakeholders to motivate the youth to channelize their energy towards positive direction.
An awareness van and awareness rally on drug abuse was also flagged off. The awareness rally started from PWD Dakbunglow and culminated at Abdullah bridge.
Similar programs were also organised in all the subdivisions of the district.
At Kathua: District Administration Kathua observed the International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking by hosting an impressive awareness program here at Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education.
The event was organised by the District Social Welfare department in collaboration with Nari Shakti Jagriti Manch Kathua (NGO) under the aegis of District Administration with the theme ‘Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises’.
A theme based cultural programme featuring an awareness skit was organised to spread the message of harmful effects of drugs and the impending need to eradicate its menace. A pledge was also administered to all present to "Say No to Drugs" and encourage others to stay away from drugs and live a healthy life.
The Department of Social Welfare Kathua also organised a Signature Campaign on Drug Demand Reduction.
At Samba: To observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking 2022, multifarious activities were organised by District Administration Samba.
The day started with an awareness cum counselling program by AYUSH Department where people were sensitized about the dangerous and life threatening effects of drugs. Demonstration of various yoga asanas to strengthen their will power to avoid such habits was also presented.
The Government Model Girls Higher Secondary school Samba organised a seminar. The students and faculty spoke about the consequences of drug abuse and ways and means to prevent and eradicate this menace from the society. Students also took pledge to become rakshak against drug abuse.
A counselling session was also held at BDO office Bari Brahmana wherein counsellors educated the people about drug menace. The Rural Development Department created awareness among Public using audio visual tools.
To create awareness among young children, especially preadolescents, the Department of ICDS organized Painting competitions in Anganwadi centres of the District Samba.
A rally of students was also taken out to spread the message against the Drug abuse and illicit Trafficking in Samba.
Meanwhile other activities organized to mark International Day for Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking included pledge ceremonies at Hospital by medical staff, special awareness camp by PRI members, debate competitions by school going students and others.
At Poonch: Deputy Commissioner Inder Jeet flagged off a Rally from Gujjar & Bakerwal Hostel to spread awareness among the public regarding the menace of Drug addiction and urgent need to stop drug abuse. The rally Culminated at Sports stadium Poonch. tion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC spoke about the growing menace of narcotics, alcohol and their ill-effects on human health especially on the youth and also its social impacts.
Addressing, the DDC Chairperson, Tazim Akhter urged upon the public and other stakeholders, particularly parents to inculcate moral values and ethics among their children.
DDC Member, Riaz Bashir also addressed the event and highlighted the ill-effects of Drugs on health.
The programme concluded with a pledge by all the participants to work for “Drugs free society” being a sincere, unbiased, fearless and responsible citizen.
At UDHAMPUR: Like other parts of the country, International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also observed at District Head Quarter Udhampur.
An impressive programme was organised by District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Mission Youth, NSS Volunteers and Mirchi 98.3 FM here at Conference Hall Government Degree College Boys Udhampur.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Anu Behl was the chief guest on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Chief Medical Officer Udhampur, Dr Vijay Basnotra, Assistant Director Employment, Priyanka Gupta and other officers/ Officials of concerned departments besides staff members and students.
During the programme, various theme based cultural performances and skits on drug abuse were presented by the students besides speakers also threw light on the hazardous effects of drugs.
A pledge was administered to participants to say ‘no to drugs’ and work to make society drug free.
AT Kishtwar: Multifarious activities were held to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2022 across District Kishtwar.
The Deputy Commissioner and SSP flagged off an awareness rally and vehicle to spread awareness against Drug abuse The event was organised by Social Welfare Department Kishtwar in collaboration with District Administration, Police administration and School Education Department.
The main function was organised at Main Bus Stand where numerous awareness Activities on "Say no to drugs" were organised.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Ashok Sharma was Chief guest on the occasion and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Shafkat Hussain Bhatt was guest of honour on the occasion.
During the programme the students performed Nukad Nattak and skits on the theme Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and Nasha Mukht Bharat which was highly applauded by participants.
The speakers made the people and students aware about the hazardous effects of drug abuse on the physical, mental & Social health of the addicts.
A felicitation ceremony to felicitate students for spreading awareness against drug abuse was also held during the programme.
At Reasi: District Administration Reasi marked the " International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" by holding a series of activities across the district.
The Main Programme was held in the Auditorium, DC Office Complex by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with "Mission Youth", Police Department, Department of Health and Medical Services, Department of Education, JKEDI and Department of Child Protection Services.
The programme started with a Rally that was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Babila Rakwal from District Headquarters. Students from different schools joined the rally with enthusiasm and spread the message among the general public through slogans.
The event featured Rangoli making, lectures, debates, PowerPoint Presentations and Nukkad Natak.
Dr Rakesh Raina (Health Department), Hari Bhushan (JKEDI), Jipsy Badyal (CWC) threw light on the Drug Menace through PPTs and Case Studies.
At Doda: To strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed across Doda district with the theme, 'Addressing Drug challenges in health and humanitarian crisis.’
The main events were organised by the Social welfare department in collaboration with the District Administration at Community Hall Doda, famous tourist spot Jai Valley, Dak Bungalow Thathri, Giasia Model Academy Changa and Government Higher Secondary School Assar.
At Community Hall Doda, the event was presided over by District Development Commissioner Doda Vikas Sharma, where a nukkad natak on theme was presented by a group of local artists. A pledge was also taken to stay away from drugs.
An awareness Van was also flagged off by the DDC from Community Hall. A number of speakers spoke during the event including Assistant Professor Psychiatry GMC Doda, Dr Zia Showkat Mughal and highlighted the importance of the day.
Women College Gandhinagar: The Cadets of 2 J&K Girls Bn. NCC of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt PG College for Women Gandhinagar observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The cadets disseminated the message that emphasized the theme “Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises" through various activities.
About 80 cadets along with ANO took online pledge ' Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs' to create awareness among masses and contributed towards their Social responsibility of awaring the youth to boycott Drugs and Choose Life. 24 Cadets made Posters to address this vulnerable issue and posted them on Social media and digital forums.
