Manjit Singh, villagers stage protest against proposed dumping zone in Amwol village
Submits memorandum to SDM
Samba,January 24 (Scoop News)-Apni Party Provincial President Jammu and Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh along with dozens of people protested against the proposed dumping zone which is going to be established at Amwol village of the district.

The protesting villagers assembled in front of the SDM office in Samba and shouted slogans against the authorities for their proposal to establish a dumping zone in Amwol village without the consultation of local residents.

The villagers led by S. Manjit Singh assembled outside the office of SDM and submitted a memorandum to the SDM concerned demanding replacement of the site far away from the proposed site for dumping zone in the village as it has caused environmental hazard.

“The dumping zone will become a threat to ecology, ground water, ponds and the playground nearby the proposed site for the dumping zone. In this regard, the authorities should review the proposal and shift the site to an alternative at an isolated place,” he said.

To avoid environmental problems, he said, the authorities should avoid putting the people in trouble and identify an alternative place to establish a dumping zone.

Later, he submitted a memorandum to the SDM and informed him about the problems that would emerge after the establishment of the dumping zone. The SDM however assured Manjit Singh that he would look into the demands.
