Rajasthan Team declared Overall Champion

Jalandar,March 24 (Scoop News)-Three-Day 6th Wushu Federation Cup Championship 2022-23 concluded today at the host Lovely Professional University (LPU), where Rajasthan Team with scores of 68 is declared ‘Overall Champion’. Teams of Haryana with 51 and Uttar Pradesh with 50 scores are at the second and third position respectively
Trophies were also handed over to the first and second position holding teams, separately for ‘Sanda’ and ‘Taolu’ games. Nearly 450 sportspersons from 28 states of India had participated in the event, all of whom were judged by renowned national and international Wushu officials from across the country. Spectacular striking, grappling, throwing, and special performances were the focus of the championship.
Chief Guest of the award ceremony, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal gave away the trophies and medals to the winners. While addressing all at the championship, Mrs Mittal said: “Such competitions promote sharing of the best skills by fostering exemplary friendship among nationals from different parts of the country.” Mrs Mittal also extended wishes for the forthcoming Asian and World Wushu Championships.
The event was inaugurated two days ago by Shri HS Barratt of the Punjab Government. President Wushu Association of Punjab and Hockey Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi (IPS Officer); CEO, Wushu Association of India, Sohail Ahmed; Senior Dean Student Welfare Wing at LPU, Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal; and, General secretary Wushu Association of Punjab, Parwinder Singh accompanied him.
The championship was organized by Punjab Wushu Association under the aegis of Wushu Association of India (WAI). On the conclusive day of the bouts and martial displays, numerous individual gold, silver & bronze medals were also awarded to the winner men and women in different weight categories. Chairperson of xpeed, Mrs Poonam was also present on this occasion.
Highlighting, Wushu will make its first appearance on an Olympic competition programme at the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympics in Senegal. Having a long history in reference to traditional Chinese martial arts, it is also a full-contact combat sport. Presently, Indian players, particularly from Punjab, Haryana, Manipur, Karnataka, Maharashtra and other states, have adopted prominent skills of the sport. The popularity of the sport is so much that many World Wushu championships have already been held in the US, Canada, Russia, China, Italy, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and many other countries.
