Secretary to HLG Ravinder Kumar flags off bicycle rally in Kargil


Kargil, June 05 (Scoop News)-Secretary to HLG/Secretary Youth and Sports, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar today flagged off a bicycle rally/a procession march in Kargil to mark World Environment Day.

ADC Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani, ACR Kargil, A.G Zargar, CEO Kargil, Mushtaq Ahmad, AD Tourism Kargil, Syed Aga Toha, Executive Officer MC, Kargil, Murtaza Ali, Wildlife Warden Kargil, Raza Ali and other concerned officers and officials were present on the occasion.

The event was organized by Wildlife Protection Division Kargil in collaboration with MC Kargil and Tourism Department Kargil under the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

The bicycle rally started from the TFC Kargil via Balti Bazaar and culminated back in TFC. Students from different schools also took out a procession march from TFC, Baimathang to Lal Chowk Kargil and back to TFC as part of ‘World Environment Day’ celebrations.

The students were holding posters with messages encouraging people to protect environment and save trees. They also raised slogans to beat plastic pollution and highlight the importance of nature for human and animal life.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary to HLG said the celebration of the day is important to aware the people about the environment and to make it a people’s movement so that the environment is saved not for present times but for coming generations and times.

Speaking on the occasion, AD tourism, Syed Aga Toha said the aim of the event is to raise awareness about environment and ecology among the masses and to encourage cycling. He also said that it is need of the hour to shun the use of the plastic in every form to safeguard of environment.

Executive Officer MC, Kargil, Murtaza Ali said that the environment is deteriorating day-by-day and organizing such events will not only educate the young generation about the environment but also appreciate and encourage them to aware others as well.

He also advised the students to disseminate awareness among their family and friends about the advantages of cycling and the hazardous of the use of plastic and help the administration to make the UT plastic free.

The bicycle rally was aimed to generate awareness and build interest of community to avert excessive use of vehicles that leads to carbon emission, climate change and global warming.

Every year, the day is dedicated to educating masses about the environment, planting trees and clean surroundings besides raising awareness on environmental issues. This year the theme for ‘World Environment Day’ is ‘Beat the Plastic Pollution’.
