GDC Drass celebrates World Environment Day


Kargil, June 05 (Scoop News)-Govt. Degree College Drass in collaboration with Pollution Control Committee Kargil, Kargil Forest Division today celebrated World Environment Day 2023 in the Sub Division.

The event was aimed to sensitize general public and students about the importance of environment. The theme of the event was “Lifestyle for Environment” which stresses everyone to adopt an environment-friendly lifestyle.

A pledge to save the environment was taken by all at Tourist Dak Banglaw, Drass where the ceremonial plantation was held by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) in presence of all the Officers/Officials of Drass Sub-Division.

The Hon’ble LG lauded the organizers of the event for conducting such programs and urged students and public to keep the environment neat and clean for everyone’s benefit.

Earlier, the program started with an awareness rally from GDC Drass by students and teachers of Govt. Higher Secondary School Drass and college students and faculty as well.

The event culminated at the new campus of the college. Slogans related to environment conservation were raised. Banners and pamphlets depicting importance of environment were distributed among public and students during the rally.

Later on, students and faculty members were divided into groups and each group was distributed with saplings by Kargil Forest Division. All participants planted more than 300 saplings at the new college campus with great enthusiasm.

While talking about the significance of celebrating the WED, DFO Kargil Forest Division, Principal GDC Drass, Principal Govt. Higher Secondary School Drass, spoke at length about the conservation of environment and benefits of planting more trees to save earth. They also requested the students to take proper care of the young saplings.

Further, they expressed gratitude to all the participants for their kind support in conducting the significant event successfully. They also urged the participants to spread awareness among their families and friends to save environment from getting polluted.
