Awareness programme regarding disability Rights among ASHA workers at Matan

Srinagar, November 19 (Scoop News)-On 2nd of 3 days Awareness cum sensitisation programme for ASHA workers of Medical block matan 50 ASHA WORKERS joined the programme. Discussion on Rights of people with Disabilities was discussed by Yasir Rafiq special Educator of Zaiba Aapa institute of inclusive education with the ASHA WORKERS. He gave idea about the sufferings faced by children with Disabilities during their long course of life. He appealed ASHA WORKERS to take the awareness to the families where they are supposed to intervene.
Early Intervention done by ASHA workers at grass root levels was discussed by Sujahat Farhan Programme coordinator and member of Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline. He presented how early identification can lead to minimization of Disability among new born children. The parents mostly children with Disabilities and avoid any intervention at small ages. Thus ASHA workers should frequently visit the families of new born babies and aware parents to consult doctors rehabilitation centres early intervention centres so that Disabilities are minimised and capacities are built towards independent living

Samreena Tak field coordinator gave detailed presentation of Family counselling and role of ASHA workers in family counseling. She said ASHA workers reach the families and they should not indulge in bad practices to break families but should take measures to make family fabric and bondings strong. Samreena gave awareness how meaningless gossips in families can create inconducive environment and affect the health of new born babies inside womb. She appealed the ASHA workers not to interfere in the Family issues but help the families to sort out issues that give troubles to pregnant ladies in families

Tajamul Islam referal coordinator Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline gave detailed presentation on Mental health issues associated with persons with disabilities. He also discussed how family conflicts, casting doubts on newly married daughter in law's cause mental illnesses among new born babies. Tajamul Islam said that ASHA workers should initiate the marriage readiness programmes in which couples shall be made aware about making sucessseful marriages and go for pregnancy when their is conducive environment in families and no conflicts arise. Even all make and female members should give proper acceptance to newly married daughter and son in law's so that no quarrels happen in families and pregnancies are carried peacefully and without mental pressures.

It is important to mention the awareness programme is for three days and on Monday concluding session will happen in the presence of stake holders of medical block mattan. The training has been organised by Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline in collaboration with Chief Medical office Anantmag. The purpose of training is to aware ASHA workers how to create save new born babies from Disabilities and if some children with Disabilities get birth how early identification detection and intervention can prevent sufferings of children with Disabilities and their families.
