Mehbooba urges LG to intervene and address issue of withholding payments of Contractors

Srinagar, April 02 (Scoop News)- The Jammu & Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (JKPDP) President Mehbooba Mufti while highlighting the plight of contractors in Jammu & Kashmir has urged Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and address the issue of withholding payments to them.

PDP chief and former Chief Minister said that the contractors across the region who are facing significant delays in receiving payments despite completing various projects are facing though times and the administration must resolve their issues on priority basis.

“The contractors, who often secure substantial loans from banks to fulfill tender conditions, are now grappling with withheld payments, causing distress to their families, especially with Eid approaching,” Mehbooba said.

“Contractors have completed work on multiple projects but are being denied payment under various pretexts, leading to financial hardships for these families. The situation has become particularly concerning as Eid, a significant festival for the Muslim community, is just around the corner,” she added.

Expressing concern over the issue, Ms Mufti called upon Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and address the payment delays faced by contractors in Jammu & Kashmir. The delay in payments not only affects the livelihoods of contractors and their families but also raises questions about the efficiency of project management and financial disbursements in the region.

The call for intervention comes as a reminder of the challenges faced by contractors and the need for timely and transparent payment processes to ensure the smooth functioning of infrastructure projects and the well-being of those involved.
