SVEEP programme to promote voter awareness for voters with disabilities held in Bijbehara


Bijbehara/Anantnag September 04 (Scoop News)- On eve of upcoming elections in J&K, district election office Anantnag organised a SVEEP PROGRAMME at Zaiba Aapa institute of inclusive education Bijbehara in which persons with Disabilities, ICDS workers, ASHA workers, VLWs, employees from rural development, sports office participated in the programme. The programme was given the theme no voter should left behind.

SVEEP nodal officer Srigufwara -Bijbehara Akhter Hussain Kasana ZEO Bijbehara gave a warm welcome to all the participants. He appealed all the voters of Srigufwara -Bijbehara constituency to vote for their choicest candidates or parties. Vote is the strongest power in hands of common people thus voters with Disabilities should not feel any way less or under scored but vote for the strengthening the democracy of country

Ayash Ahmad Bhat a person with Disability threw light on rights of persons with Disabilities. He said persons with Disabilities are no way seperate from non-disable voters. Government should ensure facilities for voters with Disabilities so that they could vote without facing hurdles

Javed Ahmad Tak social media influencer and icon for accessible elections in Srigufwara -Bijbehara constituency said that election commission has created minimum facilities for voters with Disabilities these include provided are ramps with an inclination ratio of 1:10 and not more than 1:14; separate toilets for men and women with the provision for sanitation, provision of crèche for children accompanying the voters, provision of transport for persons with special needs (PwD voters), accessible drinking water facility, adequate furniture, medical kit, proper lighting/electricity of the polling centre, help desk, 15/ 15 Sq feet tented shade, besides proper Signage for guidance of the voters about route/ layout of the location of the Polling centre, deployment of volunteers from NCC/NSS/Scout and Guides/Chunavi Pathsala for helping PwD and senior citizens, arrangements for queue management with three separate rows for mens, women and senior citizen and PwD voters and display of Voter Facilitation Posters at the polling station. Availability of Wheelchairs on every polling booth. He said that systematic voters education and electoral participation is not specific it should be extended to the last man in the line that means disabled and oldaged. Javed Ahmad Tak gave information about Saksham application and appealed all voters with Disabilities to download it in their respective phones and avail assured minimum facilities like transport, assistant on polling booth, printing of Disability logo on voter IDs of persons with Disabilities. He appealed district administration Anantnag to include resource persons with Disabilities in training programmes in order to sensitive polling crew about democratic processes. All political parties should include disability in their party manifesto and make posters banners and all election material accessible for voters with Blindness and hearing speech disabllities.

Javed Ahmad Tak appealed voters with Disabilities cast their vote and include themselves in Democratic processes. He said if women and men with Disabilities would not participate in electoral process then inclusion will never happen

Rafaqat Ali kasana zonal education officer Bijbehara on his speech said election commission of India has created facilities for voters with Disabilities to ensure 100% electoral participation. He appealed all the voters with Disabilities to avail the facilities and become proud voters.

Students of high school Semthan, students of Zaiba Aapa institute of inclusive education Semthan Bijbehara, students of Nice Higher Secondary School Bijbehara presented cultural and electoral education items.
