rZamba Trust conducts two-day ‘Library Handover Workshop’ to empower schools, VECs

Kargil, November 05 (Scoop News)- In a significant step towards fostering independent library management in remote schools, rZamba Trust held a two-day “Library Handover Workshop” on November 4 & 5 at Cultural Academy Bazar. T

The workshop was designed to equip school leaders and Village Education Committee (VEC) members from communities across Parkachik, Tambis, Titichumik, Andoo, Lobar, Yourbaltak, Darchiks, Hardass, Chanigound, and Throngoss with the skills needed to effectively manage libraries that have been developed in their schools over the past two years.

The workshop was aimed to provide comprehensive, hands-on training in library setup and organization. By the end of the sessions, participants gained practical experience in categorizing books, setting up inventory systems, and implementing library activities that encourage students to engage with reading materials. The goal is to ensure that each school and community has the tools to independently manage these libraries, fostering a sustainable culture of reading and learning.

Over the course of one half-day and one full day, the workshop combined interactive sessions led by the core team from rZamba Trust and fellow alum Zainab. Key activities included an icebreaker on community connection, a library space setup exercise, role-playing sessions on book issuing and returning, and a lively library treasure hunt designed to make learning engaging and memorable. The day concluded with a “Key Takeaway Circle,” where participants shared their insights and commitment to enhancing literacy in their communities.

Attendees included school heads and two VEC members from each participating community, bringing together diverse perspectives from the represented regions. These participants left with essential tools and skills, ready to create and maintain an enriching library environment that supports student growth.

This workshop marks a pivotal transition as rZamba Trust hands over management of these libraries to local schools and VECs, symbolizing a commitment to sustainable education initiatives in Ladakh. With this handover, rZamba Trust reinforces its dedication to building community-driven education and literacy programs that empower future generations.

In the end, co-founder Fayaz Ali expressed heartfelt thanks to all participants, emphasizing the essential role that each community plays in nurturing and sustaining these vital resources. “Your commitment today ensures a brighter, knowledge-rich future for the students in your schools and beyond,” he said.
