Symposium on Child rights and Child Protection held | | Jammu, November20 (Scoop News)- The National Development Foundation, in collaboration with the School Education Department, Mission Vatsalya and UNICEF India, organised a Symposium on Child Rights and Child Protection at Army Public School Damana, Jammu under the mentorship of Brig Vivek Puri, SM, Chairman Army Public School Damana; it aimed at raising awareness among students and teachers about child rights and protection. The symposium saw enthusiastic participation from students, delivering compelling speeches on child rights and protection. Ms. Neelakshi, Ms. Priya devi & Mr. Tanish Puri , stood Ist , 2nd and 3rd , respectively, while the consolation prizes, were bagged by Ms. Sakshi and Ms. Khushi. All the participants were given certificates. The principal of the School, Mrs. Pushpinder Kaur was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, she assured to undertake all the measures for child protection. She added that regular guidance and counseling is provided to students to ensure their mental health and protection. Ms. Pranavi and Mr. Aditya acted as stage secretary while Mr Sunny Kumar Programme Manager, NDF and, Ms. Madhur Uppal – Counsellor acted as Judge. Mr. Sunny Kumar, Programme Manager at the National Development Foundation (NDF), conducted a highly informative sensitization session aimed at both students and teachers. The session focused on the critical importance of child rights and the transformative concept of Child Rights-Focused Schools. He eloquently highlighted the fundamental rights of children, emphasizing their role in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment within educational institutions. He discussed the principles and practices that schools can adopt to align with a child rights-focused framework, such as promoting non-discrimination, encouraging student participation in decision-making, and fostering an atmosphere of respect and dignity for all. Through engaging discussions, real-life examples, and interactive activities, the session provided invaluable insights into the practical steps schools can take to become active champions of child rights. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the responsibilities of educators, students, and communities in safeguarding these rights. The session not only educated but also inspired, leaving everyone present more informed, empowered, and committed to advocating for child-friendly environments in schools. The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Mr. Amit Kundal, Programme Officer, NDF, expressed gratitude to all participants, judges, and the school teachers for their support in making the event a success.
