JK Peace Forum announces registration of Group Housing Society for Displaced Kashmiri Pandit Community

Srinagar, November22 (Scoop News)- The J K Peace Forum is proud to announce the successful registration of a new Group Housing Society in Srinagar, named The Displaced Kashmiri Resident’s Housing Society Ltd. Srinagar, Kashmir - 190001. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to provide a sense of belonging, identity, and a path towards returning to their ancestral roots for the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community.

We are also excited to officially launch our new website, www.displacedkashmiris.in, and initiate the membership drive for this crucial project. This endeavor is not a claim for any rehabilitation module, but rather a heartfelt expression of our resolve to reconnect with our land and heritage. While we aim to secure land at reasonable prices for aspiring returnees, we reiterate that this initiative is about community solidarity and a determination to rebuild our homes and lives in Kashmir.

The inspiration for this effort comes from the wisdom embedded in our scriptures, particularly the words of Prabhu Sri Ram, which beautifully state:

“मित्राणि धन धान्यानि प्रजानां सम्मतानिव |

जननी जन्म भूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी ||”

"Friends, riches, and grains are highly honored in this world, but mother and motherland are superior even to heaven."

These timeless words remind us that our homeland is our ultimate sanctuary and the source of our identity. Kashmir, being the cradle of Indian civilization, holds an irreplaceable place in the heart of the nation. The Kashmiri Pandit community’s return to Kashmir is integral to preserving the rich cultural fabric and ensuring the region's ties with the broader Indian ethos.

Thirty-five years have passed since our forced displacement in 1989-90. The dream of reclaiming our ancestral land is a powerful vision shared by all. Our geographic and cultural ties to Kashmir must remain unbroken, and we believe the continued survival of the “Idea of India” depends on the return of the indigenous Kashmiri Pandit community to their homeland.

The registration of this Group Housing Society is a practical and symbolic step toward achieving that dream. This initiative will focus on providing housing solutions for displaced Kashmiri Pandits and ensuring that their voices are heard in the planning and implementation of their return. While this society will provide the infrastructure for those who wish to return, we also emphasize that this is not a claim for rehabilitation but rather an expression of our collective will to rebuild our lives in Kashmir.

The core of this initiative is based on the recognition of the rights of refugees and displaced persons, as enshrined in international law. The right to voluntary return, the right to safety and dignity, and the right to property restitution are fundamental principles that guide this movement.

As displaced Kashmiri Pandits, our rights to return to our ancestral homes and rebuild our lives in safety and dignity must be respected. This includes the right to reclaim homes, lands, temples, shrines, and cultural landmarks that were lost during the years of displacement. Additionally, our participation in the repatriation process is essential, and we are committed to working with local communities, authorities, and government bodies to ensure a peaceful and dignified return.

This endeavor requires the active involvement of the government, local communities, and the displaced population itself. The government must ensure that the rights of returnees are protected, that adequate housing and infrastructure are provided, and that security concerns are addressed. Local communities in Kashmir play a vital role in making the return process smooth and welcoming, fostering an environment of integration and support.

We call upon all displaced Kashmiri Pandits to join hands in this noble cause, to become members of The Displaced Kashmiri Resident’s Housing Society Ltd., and to contribute toward the larger goal of rebuilding our homes and lives in Kashmir. Together, we can honor our roots, reclaim our heritage, and lay the foundation for a brighter, more secure future for the generations to come.
