Preserve the Nomadic Culture of Gujjars-Bakerwals before it Disappears: Gojri Writers | | Jammu, January 16 (Scoop News)-Over 150 writers and artists of the Gojri language convened today to deliberate on the preservation of the rich nomadic traditions of Gujjars and Bakerwals, emphasizing the urgent need for documentation before these traditions vanish. The discussions took place during the two-day Gojri Conference organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu.
Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL, reiterated the Academy’s commitment to promoting the Gojri language on modern lines. She highlighted that the Gojri wing is among the most vibrant wings of JKAACL.She told writers to take benefits from the scheme of JKAAC.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor of Gojri, stressed the Academy’s efforts in systematically preserving the written and folk traditions of Gojri.He stressed writer to play their role in documentation of Gujjar Bakerwal culture.
During the paper presentation session, discussions centered on migratory culture and Gojri literature related to migration. The session was presided over by renowned Gojri writer Ghulam Sarwar Chouhan and Dr. Javaid Rahi. Key presenters included Dr. Ishtiaq Misbah, Dr. Nighat Choudhary, Masood Awan, M.K. Waqar, Shokat Naseem , Mehmood Chouhan and Rafeeq Soz.
A special segment featured female Gojri writers, including Shazia Choudhary, Naseem Akhter, Kalsoom Akhter, Zulikha, Shadia Parveen, and Anisa Kareem, who spoke on the role of women in nomadic culture and their contributions to Gojri literature.
The conference also hosted a UT-level Mushaira, presided over by Jan Mohammad Hakeem and Hassan Parwaz. Poets such as Masrof Ghalab Ghari, Tariq Fahim, Rafeeq Soz, Bashir Khaki, Khakaan Sajad, Basharat Nazak, Basharat Azaz, Naseem Gulabghari, Bilal Zam Zam, Tayob Raza Jeelani, Khalid Sorwardi, Zahida Khanam, Sadam Saraf, and Rafi Shabnam recited their poetry, enriching the literary gathering.
Key issues discussed during the conference included the inclusion of Gojri in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution and the introduction of Gojri as a subject in Jammu University and Kashmir University.
