| Kashmiri Pandits Observe 36th Holocaust Day | | ASKPC calls for White Paper on Genocide and Return to Homeland |  Jammu, January 19 (Scoop News)-On the 36th anniversary of the mass exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from the Valley, the All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) SDYSS (Regd) held a solemn commemorative event at Durra Nagar, Jammu. Led by President R.K. Wangnoo, community members gathered to observe Holocaust Day, marking the tragic events of January 19, 1990, when the indigenous Pandit community was hounded out of their ancestral homes.
Addressing the gathering, R.K. Wangnoo emphasized that January 19 remains a "Black Day" in human history. He reiterated the community’s long-standing demand for the Government of India to issue a comprehensive White Paper to fix responsibility for the genocide and forced displacement of Kashmiri Pandits.
Prominent community leaders and activists, including Sanjay Bakshi, R. L. Koul, Ashok Dhar, Veena Grutoo, Nana Ji Bhan, J.L. Pandita, S.K. Raina, C.L. Pandita, Daizy Bhat, Usha Dhar, S.L. Reshi, Moti Lal Pandita, Sanjay Chowgami, Ramesh Sopori, Rohit Hali, Sunny Raina and others joined the President in paying floral tributes to the martyrs who lost their lives to terrorism. The speakers highlighted the resilience of the community during 36 years of exile and expressed their unwavering determination to return to the Valley under a secure and dignified framework.
Speaking on the Occasion Sanjay Bakshi said we cannot forget the slogans that echoed in 1990, nor can we forgive the apathy that followed," stated the speakers. "Our struggle for justice and a separate settlement within the Valley—as envisioned in the historical resolutions of our elders like Late Sh. Amarnath Vaishnavi—continues with full vigor."
Key Demands Raised During the Observance:
Establishment of a Judicial Commission: To investigate the targeted killings and the circumstances leading to the 1990 exodus.
Single-Point Rehabilitation: A demand for a concentrated settlement for the community in the Kashmir Valley to ensure safety and cultural preservation.
Enhancement of Relief: Immediate attention to the economic welfare of displaced families and medical assistance for those suffering from chronic ailments.
Protection of Heritage: Ensuring the safety of temples and shrines remaining in the Valley.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to keep the Kashmiri Pandit identity, language, and culture alive for future generations, regardless of the challenges of displacement. ... |
