Hakeem Yaseen calls on LG Sinha, flags key development and welfare concerns
Says LG assured early reopening of tourists destinations Doodpathri, Yousmarg and Tosamaidan
Srinagar, February 02 (Scoop News)- President of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, on Sunday met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Lok Bhavan and raised several pressing developmental and public welfare issues concerning various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with particular emphasis on Budgam district and other neglected rural areas.

During the meeting, Yaseen drew the Lieutenant Governor’s attention to the prolonged ban on tourist activities at key destinations, including Doodpathri, Yousmarg, and Tosamaidan.

He said the continued restrictions have severely impacted family’s dependent on tourism-related livelihoods and appealed for the immediate reopening of these areas, citing improved security conditions and prevailing normalcy.

Hakeem Yaseen expressed hope that the administration would take prompt steps to revive tourism and ensure balanced and inclusive development across the Union Territory.

“The Lieutenant Governor assured that the tourist destinations would be reopened soon,” Yaseen said.

The PDF president also apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the hardships faced by people due to inadequate infrastructure, rising electricity tariffs and lack of basic amenities.

He said that several areas, particularly Khag subdivision, have remained neglected for decades and continue to suffer from poor road connectivity, erratic power supply, shortage of drinking water, and weak health and education facilities.

Raising concerns over power-related issues, Yaseen said residents of rural and far-flung areas are being charged high electricity bills despite prolonged power cuts, adding to their financial burden.

He urged the administration to provide special concessions and relief to people living in poor and backward regions.

Highlighting the deteriorating health sector, Yaseen stressed the urgent need to revive and strengthen Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and other medical facilities to ensure accessible, high-quality healthcare.

He also demanded the reopening and upgradation of educational and skill development institutions, including Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), to create better opportunities for local youth.

Raising the issue of unemployment, Yaseen said the lack of sustainable livelihood options has left many young people uncertain.

He urged the government to launch targeted employment and skill development programmes in rural areas to curb distress and migration and promote long-term economic stability.
