| Ashok Koul chairs BJP Transport Cell meet, opposes fuel and fare hike | | Jammu, March 05 (Scoop News)-A meeting of the Transport Cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was chaired by Ashok Koul, General Secretary (Organization), at the party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
The meeting focused on the recent proposals regarding the hike in petrol and diesel prices and the increase in transport fares in Jammu and Kashmir.
J&K BJP Vice President Rajeev Charak, MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi, BJP All Cells Incharge Ved Sharma, Spokesperson Abhijeet Jasrotia, All Cells Co-Incharge Munish Khajuria, Transport Cell Convenor Ashutosh Sharma, and Co-Convenors Roshan Lal and Kamaljeet Singh, among other party leaders participated in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Ashok Koul strongly criticized the proposal for a hike in petrol and diesel prices placed in the J&K Assembly by the government led by Omar Abdullah. He said that such decisions directly affect the common citizens and create a cascading impact on the prices of essential commodities. He said that the BJP has always stood with the common man and will continue to raise its voice against policies that impose an unnecessary financial burden on the public. He said that the proposed hike will ultimately lead to inflation in day-to-day goods and services, which is unacceptable. He added that the party will organize protests at the state as well as district levels in the coming days to press the government to reconsider the decision.
Rajeev Charak, while speaking on the occasion, termed the decision to increase transport fares by around 18 percent as highly condemnable. He said that such measures will further strain the pockets of ordinary citizens who are already dealing with rising living costs.
Yudhvir Sethi said that this is the second time since the present government assumed charge in Jammu and Kashmir that additional financial burden in this sector, has been placed on the public. He emphasized that the BJP, as a responsible opposition, will strongly oppose such anti-people decisions and stand firmly with the common masses.
Ved Sharma also expressed concern over the impact of the proposed hikes on daily life. He said that an increase in transport fares would directly lead to a rise in prices of essential goods, affecting every household.
During the meeting, the Transport Cell along with senior party leaders chalked out a detailed strategy to oppose the proposed fare hike and fuel price increase. It was also decided that a formal memorandum highlighting the concerns of the public will be submitted to the government through appropriate channels, while protest programmes will be organized across various districts to raise the issue.
