AIP Hails MHA’s Humanitarian Gesture
Seeks Similar Consideration for Kashmiris Lodged in Jails

New Delhi, March 14 (Scoop News)-AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Saturday welcomed the decision of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to revoke the detention of Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act, describing it as a compassionate step that reflects the importance of humanitarian considerations in governance.

In a statement, Inam Un Nabi said that the decision has brought relief not only to the family and supporters of Sonam Wangchuk but has also sent a hopeful message across the region. He said that gestures rooted in compassion and understanding often help create an atmosphere where dialogue and reconciliation become possible.

Welcoming the move, he urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to extend the same compassionate approach towards Kashmiri detainees who have been lodged in different jails across the country for years. “There are many families in Kashmir who continue to live in pain and uncertainty as their loved ones remain far away in prisons outside the Valley. The government should consider giving them at least one opportunity on similar humanitarian grounds,” he said.

Inam Un Nabi said that such a step would not only bring relief to numerous families but would also help in building confidence among the people. “When decisions are guided by empathy and fairness, they strengthen the bond between institutions and citizens,” he added.

Inam Un Nabi also said that the case of Engineer Rashid, the jailed Member of Parliament from Baramulla, deserves immediate attention. Inam Un Nabi said that Engineer Rashid should also be released without any delay, as he is not only the elected representative of the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency but a voice of Jammu and Kashmir on whom people from across regions and communities have placed their faith.

He said the continued incarceration of an elected Member of Parliament raises serious concerns among the people who voted for him in large numbers and entrusted him with the responsibility of representing their aspirations in Parliament. According to him, respecting the democratic mandate and ensuring that the voice of the people is heard remains vital for strengthening democratic institutions.

Inam Un Nabi expressed hope that the humanitarian consideration shown in the case of Sonam Wangchuk would encourage authorities to review the cases of Kashmiri detainees as well, allowing Kashmiris lodged in different jails, a fair chance and giving their families a moment of relief after years of suffering.
