CEC Kargil Dr. Jaffer Akhoon Inaugurates Hajj 2026 Orientation and Training Programme


Kargil, April 12 (Scoop News)-Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today inaugurated the Hajj Orientation and Training Programme for Hajj–2026 (Hijri 1447) at Syed Mehdi Memorial Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

The programme, organised by the Hajj Committee Kargil, was conducted for all selected pilgrims from across Kargil district to prepare them for the sacred pilgrimage.

The programme commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran (Tilawat-e-Quran), setting a spiritual tone for the event. The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon as Chief Guest, the Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Ladakh as the Guest of Honour and former Executive Councillor Ali Chandan, President JUIAK Sheikh Nazir ul- Mehdi along with officials, religious scholars, and pilgrims.

In his welcome address, former Executive Councillor Ali Chandan underscored the importance of orientation programmes in ensuring a smooth and well-informed pilgrimage. He urged the pilgrims to actively participate in the training sessions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the rituals and procedures associated with Hajj, while also appreciating the support of various stakeholders in facilitating the arrangements.

Addressing the gathering, CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon extended his heartfelt congratulations to all selected pilgrims and expressed hope that the orientation programme would equip them with the necessary knowledge and preparedness for the sacred journey. He appealed to the pilgrims to pray for peace, prosperity, and overall development of Ladakh during their pilgrimage.

Dr. Akhoon highlighted that since the formation of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the establishment and strengthening of the Hajj Committee has significantly improved facilities and support systems for pilgrims from the region. He expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for their continued support in facilitating Hajj-related arrangements.

The CEC also informed that a Passport Seva Kendra will soon be established in Kargil district, which will greatly ease administrative processes and benefit residents, particularly prospective pilgrims.

The Chairman of the Hajj Committee, while addressing the pilgrims, extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the pilgrims. He also expressed sincere gratitude to all the dignitaries for their presence, especially the Chief Guest, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on behalf of the Hajj Committee Kargil.

He further extended his heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Minister for Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, for their continued support in facilitating Hajj-related arrangements.

He expressed deep appreciation to all the trainers for their invaluable contribution and logistical support in organizing the program.

Emphasizing the importance of the orientation, he stated that it is not merely a formality, but urged the pilgrims to make the most of the opportunity by gaining maximum knowledge about the practices and rituals of Hajj.

During the programme, officials shared details of Hajj 2026, informing that a total of 568 pilgrims from Ladakh have been selected for the pilgrimage, including 467 from Kargil district (208 male and 259 female) and 101 from Leh district (37 male and 64 female).

The programme concluded with prayers for the well-being of all pilgrims and for the peace and prosperity of the region.
