| Musical Tributes paid to Legendary Artist Sursamrat Vijay Malla | |  Jammu, May 09(Scoop News)-In a deeply emotional and culturally vibrant event dedicated to the memory of legendary Kashmiri singer Sursamrat Vijay Malla, young Kashmiri artists came together to celebrate his timeless musical legacy through a grand tribute programme organised by Athrot Cultural Foundation under the leadership of RK Pandita and Abhimanyu Peshin at Asha Bhavan ,Roopnagar ,Jammu.
Held with the blessings of Panun Kashmir and supported by People’s Hut Foundation, the programme emerged as an evening where memory, music, and cultural continuity intertwined with extraordinary warmth and emotion.
The programme was attended by several prominent personalities including Swami Kumar Ji, Dr. Agnishekhar, Tito Ganju, eminent singer and composer Naina Saproo Trisal, Kiran Pandita, Prof. Virender Rawal, Sanjay Raina, Adarsh Ajit, Dr. Ramesh Nirash Prof Virender Rawal and Ramesh Marhatta.
Among the performers, Vanshika Kaw, a Class 6 student and the youngest participant of the evening, drew admiration for her confident and deeply emotional rendition of “Humse Mat Puchhiye Hum Kidr Jayenge.” Her performance symbolised the transmission of Kashmiri musical heritage to an entirely new generation born in exile yet emotionally connected to its cultural roots.
Daksh Bhat’s rendition of “Meaj Chhe Aakhir Meajj Aasaan” deeply moved the audience, while Lavanya Koul mesmerised listeners with “Mye Mashok Havina Paan.” Shruti Raina delivered “Na Draav Nachni Hawas Kahn” with grace and intensity, and Gandharv Kaloo’s stirring rendition of “Beyi Lanjyi Gobyov Baaaar” received prolonged applause. Pranav emotionally rendered “Kavo Chhukh Mye Travith Tchalan Tathi Yaaro.”
The highlight of the evening, however, was the captivating performance by Aakash Koul, whose renditions of “Bey Aaroo Teer mo layi ” and “Darshan Dokh Tchali” electrified the gathering and drew thunderous appreciation from the audience. His powerful voice, emotional depth, and effortless connection with listeners transformed the atmosphere into one of collective nostalgia and celebration.
A particularly moving segment of the programme came through a duet tribute by Gandharv Kaloo and Pranav, who presented “Zinda Rozan Bapat Che Maraan Luk,” creating an atmosphere filled with remembrance and emotional intensity.
Addressing the gathering, Naina Saproo Trisal blessed the young artists and expressed satisfaction that the musical and cultural legacy of Kashmir would continue through the younger generation. She observed that seeing young voices carry forward these songs was itself a reassurance that the heritage of Kashmir would remain alive despite exile and displacement.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Agnishekhar delivered an evocative address linking Kashmiri musical heritage to the broader civilizational contribution of Kashmiri Pandits. Referring to the young singers participating in the tribute, he remarked, “Tomorrow is my address, and these young singers are my tomorrow.”
Dr. Agnishekhar also recalled the monumental contribution of Kashmiri Pandit scholar Pt. Sharangdeva, whose Sanskrit treatise Sangita Ratnakara remains one of the most comprehensive and authoritative works on Indian classical music and dance. He noted that the text serves as a historic bridge between ancient and medieval traditions of Indian musicology, symbolising the profound contribution of Kashmir to the civilizational and artistic consciousness of India.
The programme was gracefully conducted by Kanwal Peshin, who carried the audience through an evening soaked in melody, memory, and reverence.
The event concluded with a collective sentiment that the voice of Sursamrat Vijay Malla will continue to resonate through generations of young Kashmiri artists, keeping alive the cultural soul of a community that refuses to let exile silence its music.
