A 20-minute documentary showcasing the Home's upgraded facilities and welfare activities was screened. This was followed by a PowerPoint presentation from Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary of the Home, who highlighted major achievements, infrastructure development works, and recent welfare initiatives, as well as his vision for futuristic welfare projects for which he sought public support.
Kuldeep Khoda, lauded the Home for its exemplary humanitarian service and
stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure dignity, security and quality of life for elderly citizens. He, however, regretted the growing lack of social responsibility among the younger generation and said that the young interns from the prestigious educational institutions within and outside Jammu visiting the Old Age Home, can carry the message of social responsibility and respect for elders in their families so that cities do not need such Old Age Homes at all.
Dr. Ashok Bhan became emotional during his speech over the unfortunate social trend of siblings deserting their old parents, who owe everything to them. He expressed mixed feelings of satisfaction over the upgraded amenities provided with dignity, and sadness for the pain these elders feel from desertion by their families and personal homes. He made a strong plea for reviving old values of humanity, compassion, social responsibility and respect for elders by their children. Commending the documentary screened on the occasion listing the steps taken to make the life of the inmate very comfortable and dignified, he urged the management of the Home to consider equally well-meaning documentary that educates the younger generation to desist from admitting their old and hapless parents to such Old Age Homes, howsoever best and comfortable these may be.
