Mega Genetic Testing and Awareness Camp for Muscular Dystrophy Held at Zaiba Aapa Institute of Inclusive Education, Bijbehara

Bijbehara, June 25 (Scoop News)- The Department of Zoology and Genetics, University of Jammu, organized a mega Assessment-cum-Genetic Testing and Awareness Camp for individuals affected by Muscular Dystrophy and other rare genetic and chronic disorders at Zaiba Aapa Institute of Inclusive Education, Bijbehara, Kashmir.

The programme brought together eminent academicians, researchers, affected individuals, and their families with the objective of promoting awareness, assessment, and genetic screening for Muscular Dystrophy and related disorders.

During the camp, around 30 individuals affected by Muscular Dystrophy, rare diseases, and other chronic conditions were clinically assessed. As part of the initiative, 20 biological samples were collected for genetic testing to facilitate accurate diagnosis and support ongoing research efforts.

A comprehensive awareness session was conducted to educate participants and caregivers about the challenges associated with Muscular Dystrophy, available management strategies, the importance of early diagnosis, and the role of genetic counseling. Participants and their families actively interacted with the expert team, sharing their experiences, concerns, and expectations.

The programme was attended by a distinguished team of experts and researchers, including Dr. Ravi, Dr. Shikhaa, Dr. Younis, Dr. Rakesh, Dr. Parvinder Kumar, and research scholars Danish and Tanishiq.

Parents and caregivers of individuals living with Muscular Dystrophy expressed their gratitude to the organizers for conducting the camp and providing valuable guidance, support, and medical insight. Special appreciation was extended to Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline for facilitating the programme and mobilizing participants from different areas.

The organizing team also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Javed Ahmad Tak, Founder of Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline, for his invaluable support in coordinating the event and ensuring the participation of affected individuals and their families.

To encourage attendance and reduce the financial burden on participants, each attendee was provided travel assistance of ₹500.

The organizers reaffirmed their commitment to continuing awareness campaigns, genetic screening programmes, and support initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of individuals affected by Muscular Dystrophy and other rare genetic disorders.
