Kargil, July 23 (Scoop News)- Acting upon the directions of the Worthy Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, the SDM, Sankoo, Sh. Waseem Ramzan Dar, JKAS, conducted an extensive on-site inspection of the restoration and reclamation works being undertaken by various agencies in the aftermath of the recent flash flood at Sangrah.

During the visit, the SDM reviewed the progress of restoration works, including the repair and restoration of khuls (irrigation channels), culverts, and the reclamation of agricultural land and residential houses filled with mud, debris, and boulders. He also took stock of the assessment exercise being carried out by the concerned line departments and directed them to submit the assessment reports of all affected properties, trees, agricultural land, and standing crops by tomorrow evening for onward submission to the competent authority.

The SDM appealed to the people of Sangrah to extend their full cooperation to the assessment committees so that the survey could be completed in a timely and transparent manner and no affected property or beneficiary is left out of the assessment.

Meanwhile, the people of Sangrah expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the district administration, particularly the SDM, Sankoo, for his timely intervention, effective coordination, and prompt response during the emergency.

The SDM further advised the public to remain patient and refrain from engaging heavy machinery for minor restoration works, as it may cause unnecessary damage to private properties. Instead, he urged them to undertake such works manually wherever feasible.

Thereafter, the SDM visited Kharcheykhar and reviewed the ongoing dredging and river training works being executed by the concerned agencies. He directed the executing agencies to expedite the works and ensure their completion within the stipulated timeframe.

The SDM also inspected Stakpa, Umba, and other vulnerable and flood-prone nallas of the sub-division to assess the prevailing situation. He instructed the concerned departments to remain in a state of readiness and ensure the availability of men and machinery to respond promptly to any emergency arising due to the prevailing inclement weather.

Keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions, the SDM assured the public that the dredging of Hokar Nalla would be taken up on priority to minimize the risk of flooding and safeguard life, property, and agricultural land.
