| BJP challenges Rahul Gandhi to debate NEET Paper Leak in Parliament | | says Centre committed to protecting students |
Jammu, July 23 (Scoop News)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokespersons Arun Gupta and Dr Tahir Chowdhary on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over the NEET paper leak controversy, accusing Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of avoiding a discussion in Parliament and attempting to politicize an issue concerning the country's students.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar here, Arun Gupta said the alleged NEET paper leak is a matter of grave concern and asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the issue with utmost seriousness, making it clear that the future of students remains the government's highest priority.
"The Prime Minister has taken very serious cognizance of the NEET paper leak. The youth and students of this country are our government's topmost priority. We will not allow anyone to play with their emotions, careers or future," Gupta said.
He said issues related to students should rise above political differences and should not become a tool for political confrontation.
"When it comes to students and youth, politics should take a back seat. Every political party must work together to safeguard the future of our young generation," he said.
Launching a direct attack on Rahul Gandhi, Gupta questioned why the Congress leader was "running away" from a debate in Parliament.
"We are repeatedly asking Rahul Gandhi to come to Parliament for a discussion. Why is he avoiding the debate? As the Leader of Opposition, it is his responsibility to question the government inside Parliament rather than making statements outside," he said.
Gupta maintained that Parliament is the highest democratic institution where every issue can be debated transparently and where the government is fully prepared to answer all questions related to the NEET paper leak.
"If the Opposition wants to make this an issue, let it be discussed in Parliament. Ask the government why it happened, seek accountability and offer suggestions. Parliament is the appropriate forum for such discussions," he said.
Highlighting the Centre's response, Gupta said Prime Minister Modi has ordered the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure speedy disposal of cases related to the NEET paper leak and other examination paper leak incidents.
He said directions have already been issued for setting up fast-track courts and that all previous paper leak cases would also be investigated thoroughly.
"The Prime Minister has directed that fast-track courts be established. Every paper leak case, including earlier incidents, will be investigated comprehensively and strict legal action will be taken against all those responsible," he said.
Gupta further said the government acted promptly after the incident, with those allegedly involved already arrested and legal proceedings initiated against them.
"The government has taken immediate action. The accused have been arrested and due legal proceedings are underway, which is what every responsible government should do," he said.
Questioning the Congress' approach, Gupta alleged that Rahul Gandhi was attempting to create confusion and unrest instead of participating in a democratic discussion.
"Do you want to spread anarchy across the country? Do you want to send a message that anyone can play with the future of students? The BJP government will never allow such a situation," he said.
Referring to previous Congress governments, Gupta claimed examination paper leaks had also occurred during their tenure but said the BJP had never sought to exploit such incidents politically.
"There were dozens of paper leak cases during Congress governments as well. But we understood that students' careers cannot become political tools. The focus should always be on finding solutions," he said.
Gupta also compared education spending under previous governments with the present administration, claiming that the education budget during former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's tenure stood at around ₹8,300 crore, whereas the Modi government has increased it to nearly ₹1.36 lakh crore.
"This clearly demonstrates our government's commitment to education. Such a massive increase reflects the importance we attach to students because the future of the country lies in the hands of its youth," he said.
He reiterated that the BJP government was ready for an extensive discussion in Parliament under any rule or procedure and invited the Opposition to participate constructively.
"You can question us for as long as you want in Parliament. Bring your suggestions, seek answers and participate in a meaningful discussion. Parliament is the highest democratic institution, watched by the entire nation and respected internationally," Gupta said.
Speaking at the press conference, Dr Tahir Chowdhary said the BJP government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractices and reiterated that no one involved in the paper leak would be spared, irrespective of their position or influence.
He said the Centre's swift response, including arrests and legal action, reflected its commitment to protecting the interests of students and ensuring transparency in the examination system.
"The Modi government is fully committed to safeguarding the future of students. Anyone found guilty of compromising the integrity of public examinations will face strict legal action. There will be no leniency for those responsible," Dr Chowdhary said.
He alleged that instead of supporting measures to strengthen the examination system, the Congress was attempting to create unnecessary controversy for political gains.
"Rather than politicizing an issue that affects lakhs of students, the Opposition should cooperate in strengthening the examination system and support every effort aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency," he said.
Dr Chowdhary urged political parties to place national interest above partisan politics and appealed to students not to lose confidence in the examination process, assuring them that the government was taking every possible step to ensure justice and accountability.=
