| BJP Failed to Deliver Statehood, Now Trying to Undermine Elected Govt: Rattan Lal | |
Jammu, August 24 (Scoop News)-Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta today termed the BJP State office-bearers’ core committee meeting as a political drama aimed at diverting attention from its failure to fulfil its repeated promise of restoring full-fledged statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing party office-bearers and functionaries from Bhalwal Block, at Gandhi Nagar Jammu Party headquater, Gupta said the BJP has no moral standing to lecture the elected government on democracy when it continues to deny the people their legitimate right to a fully empowered state government. “The BJP came to power at the Centre promising restoration of statehood, yet years later Jammu and Kashmir continues to remain without its constitutional status as a full-fledged State. Instead of accounting for this broken promise, the BJP is busy targeting a government that was elected with a clear public mandate,” he said.
Gupta said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have decisively rejected the BJP’s politics and entrusted the National Conference-led government with the responsibility of restoring democratic institutions, dignity and development. “The BJP should answer a simple question: Where is the full-fledged statehood it promised the people? Why has there been no clear roadmap or firm timeline for restoration? Why is an elected government being denied the powers that naturally belong to a State government?” he asked.
He said the BJP’s constant attempts to undermine the Omar Abdullah-led government expose its frustration with the people’s mandate. “The BJP should introspect before questioning the democratic credentials of the elected government. It cannot preach democracy while refusing to respect the mandate of the people and remaining silent on the restoration of statehood,” Gupta said.
The Opposition is the key and soul of any vibrant democracy, but unfortunately, the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir is playing a totally negative and irresponsible role by allegedly attempting to destabilise the democratically elected Omar-led Government.
Rattan Lal Gupta said that instead of acting as a constructive Opposition and raising genuine issues concerning the people, the BJP appears to be more focused on creating political instability through misleading narratives and what he described as fabricated stories against the elected Government.
He asserted that the Omar Abdullah-led Government will continue to work for peace, development and equitable progress across Jammu and Kashmir, and that no amount of political conspiracies or misinformation can defeat the democratic aspirations of the people.
