| GDC Zanskar Celebrates National Sports Day with Enthusiasm and Competitive Spirit | |
Zanskar, August 30 (Scoop News)-Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar marked the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand with great fervor, organizing a vibrant two-day National Sports Day celebration. The event witnessed active participation from students across all semesters, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship, fitness, and camaraderie under the supervision of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi.
The celebrations commenced on August 29 with an exciting Volleyball match that drew enthusiastic participation from students. On this occasion, Incharge Principal Dr. Mohd Hussain Akhone addressed the gathering, emphasizing the vital role of sports in holistic education. He underscored how participation in such events builds discipline, teamwork, and mental resilience, while also appreciating the vibrant turnout and the positive energy displayed by the players.
The technical conduct of the day’s events was spearheaded by Dr. Hussain Ali, Director of Physical Education and Sports. He delivered an insightful briefing to the students about the historical significance of National Sports Day, paying rich tributes to Major Dhyan Chand, whose unparalleled contribution to Indian hockey continues to inspire generations. He motivated the students to adopt sports as a way of life and to draw inspiration from the legendary player’s dedication and skill.
The sporting fervor reached its peak on August 30, which was observed as the Valedictory Day of the celebration. A highly competitive Table Tennis tournament was organized, which saw enthusiastic participation from both boys and girls. The matches were marked by sharp rallies and intense focus, reflecting the deep interest of the students in the game. In the Boys’ Category Stanzin Paljor (3rd Semester) secured First Position,
Second Position was secured by Skalzang Rigzin (1st Semester). In the Girls’ Category Stanzin Dolma (1st Semester) and Second Position secured by Chunith Zangmo (5th Semester).
The two-day event concluded with a dignified certificate distribution ceremony. The winners were honored by Incharge Principal Dr. Mohd Hussain Akhone and the esteemed faculty members, who presented certificates to the achievers and participants as a token of appreciation for their outstanding performance and enthusiastic participation.
