Drass Festival 2026: LAAC&L; District Administration, Drass
SWAL organise multilingual mushaira


Drass, September 04 (Scoop News)- As a part of the ongoing Drass Festival 2026, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Kargil in collaboration with District Administration Drass and Shina Writers’ Association Ladakh organized a multilingual mushaira at Conference Hall, Tourist Dak Bungalow Drass.

Over 20 poets from Drass, Kargil, Leh and Sham districts presented their poetic compositions in Urdu and regional languages.

Deputy Commissioner Drass Sh. Imteeaz Kacho, JKAS was the chief guest and noted poet & State Awardee Ghulam Ahmad Khan Jawan presided over the poetic sitting. Those who sat in the presidium also included Councillor Lower Drass Abdul Wahid, senior scholar and poet Nawang Tsering Shakspo and poets Barkat Ali Nizami and Muhammad Ali Ashoor.

Sadre Mahfil Ghulam Ahmad Khan Jawan and Councillor Abdul Wahid also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of District Administration Drass and LAAC&L Kargil for organising this literary gathering with participation of poets and scholars from across Ladakh.

A book exhibition by Shina Writers Association Ladakh on books pertaining to poetry, prose, primer and other aspects of Shina Dardi language was also organized on the occasion which was highly appreciated by the participants and locals alike.

Earlier while welcoming the dignitaries, participating poets and the audience Special Officer for Cultural Activities Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak highlighted the aims and objectives of organizing the literary sitting in enhancing literary exchange and interaction among young and senior poets to further give fillip to literary traditions in Ladakh with particular reference to the genre of poetry.

Among other who were present on the occasion included poets, writers, officers from the civil administration, school and college students and a large number of literary enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Ahmad Khan was felicitated by the District Administration Drass for his life-time contribution and dedication for promotion and development of Shina Dardi lanaguage.

Noted poet and writer Muhammad Shafi Sagar conducted the proceedings while writer Muhammad Shabir Misbahi delivered the vote of thanks.

Poets who presented their compositions included Ghulam Ahmad Khan Jawan, Nawang Tsering Shakspo, Barkat Ali Nizami, Muhammad Ali Ashour, Raza Amjad Badgami, Asgar Ali Aasi, Khayal Ladakhi, Bashir Ahmad Wafa, Muhammad Shafi Sagar, Ghulam Qadir Zaki, Muhammad Yasin Ansari, Muhammad Ashraf Sagar, Muhammad Ali Khumar, Muhammad Hussain Fayaz, Tsewang Rigzin, Farooq Ahmad Noorie, Fida Ali Karkiti, Ahsan Ali Bismil, Atiqa Parveen, Tundup Palgais, Zakir Hussain, Fida Ali and Irfan Younus.
