| Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Chairs Third Review Meeting of District Level NCORD Committee | |
Khaltsi, September 05 (Scoop News)-The Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), today chaired the Third Review Meeting of the District Level NCORD (Narco Coordination) Committee at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office, Khaltsi, to review the progress of measures being undertaken to prevent drug abuse, illicit trafficking and illegal cultivation of narcotic crops in the district.
At the outset, the Committee reviewed the Action Taken Report (ATR) on the decisions taken during the 2nd NCORD meeting held on 05 August 2026. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress made by the concerned departments and emphasized the need for timely implementation of the decisions taken by the Committee.
The meeting deliberated on the exchange of intelligence and information regarding trends in drug trafficking, monitoring the progress of investigations in cases having cross-state implications, and the review of NDPS cases.
The Committee reviewed measures for promoting anti-drug abuse awareness programmes, particularly in schools and colleges, as well as drug demand reduction activities. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of sustained awareness campaigns involving the Police, Education, Health and other concerned departments, with special focus on youth and vulnerable groups.
Emphasizing the need for stronger inter-departmental coordination, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to prepare and implement department-wise NCORD action plans and ensure regular monitoring of progress. She also stressed the need to identify and take appropriate measures for the eradication of illegal cannabis cultivation in the district.
The Committee further discussed strengthening inter-district surveillance by the Police and Excise Department to prevent the movement and trafficking of narcotic substances across district boundaries. The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned agencies to maintain close coordination, share timely intelligence and take coordinated enforcement and preventive measures.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed all concerned departments to submit their monthly progress reports on NCORD-related activities to the Police Department by the 30th of every month, enabling regular review and consolidation of progress at the district level.
The meeting emphasized a coordinated, preventive and community-oriented approach towards combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The Deputy Commissioner called upon all stakeholder departments to work collectively and intensify efforts towards making Sham district drug-free.
