Athletic Event Under National Sports Day Youth Engagement Programme Concludes in Kargil

Kargil, September 06 (Scoop News)-The Athletic Event organised by the Youth Services & Sports (YSS) Department, Kargil, under the aegis of the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, to mark National Sports Day and as part of the Month-Long Youth Engagement Programme, concluded today with the 10,000-metre Long Distance Run.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of young athletes from all seven districts of the Union Territory of Ladakh, providing them with a common platform to showcase their talent, endurance, speed and sporting spirit.

The concluding-cum-presentation ceremony was held at TFC Ground, Kargil, and was attended by Advocate Khadim Hussain, Hon’ble Councillor, Baroo-Minjee Constituency, as the Chief Guest, while Shri Abid Ali, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Kargil, attended the ceremony as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the participating athletes, Chief Guest Advocate Khadim Hussain appreciated the YSS Department for organising the event and providing meaningful opportunities to the youth of Ladakh. He said that National Sports Day and the Youth Engagement Programme are a great opportunity for the youth of Ladakh to pursue sports and work towards building a better future.

He further emphasised the importance of sports in keeping the younger generation physically and mentally fit and said that sports can play a vital role in keeping youth away from drug abuse and other negative influences. He encouraged the athletes to remain committed, disciplined and focused on their sporting goals.

Advocate Khadim Hussain also appreciated the organising team, working under the supervision of the District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Kargil, for successfully conducting the event and ensuring the participation of athletes from all seven districts of Ladakh.

In the overall championship, Kargil District emerged as the Overall Champion in the Men’s Category, while Leh District clinched the Overall Championship in the Women’s Category.

During the presentation ceremony, the Chief Guest distributed medals, certificates and cash prizes among the athletes securing the top three positions in the 200-metre, 1500-metre and 10,000-metre races.

The successful conclusion of the athletic event marks another important initiative towards strengthening the sports culture in Ladakh and engaging young people in healthy, constructive and productive activities. The participation of athletes from all seven districts further reflected the spirit of unity, sportsmanship and healthy competition across the Union Territory.
