| Illegal Immigrants Must Be Identified and Deported Without Delay: BJP | |
Jammu, October 06 (Scoop News)-The process of identifying, locating and deporting illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar residing in Jammu Kashmir must be expedited with the urgency warranted by the security situation, said Girdhari Lal Raina, former MLC and spokesperson, BJP J&K.
Raina welcomed the reported deportation of around 600 Bangladeshi nationals identified as illegally residing in the Union Territory, including the first batch of 150 persons flown from Srinagar to Bagdogra for onward deportation. However, he said the pace of the exercise needs to be substantially increased and all confirmed cases should be dealt with without unnecessary delay.
He said Jammu Kashmir Police and intelligence agencies have conducted surveys to identify Rohingyas, Bangladeshi nationals and other undocumented foreign nationals. The Jammu Kashmir government has reportedly submitted verified data to the Centre’s High-Level Committee on Demographic Change (HLCDC), identifying around 8,160 undocumented foreign nationals across the Union Territory. Security assessments, however, indicate that the actual number could be much higher, particularly where individuals may have acquired forged or fraudulent local documents.
Raina said the reported registration of security-related cases, particularly in Jammu division, highlights the need for a comprehensive investigation into illegal entry, fraudulent documentation and local networks facilitating unauthorised settlement. Sensitive border districts require particular attention.
“Illegal immigration in Jammu Kashmir cannot be treated merely as an administrative issue. In a sensitive border of the Union Territory, illegal settlement, forged identity documents and organised facilitation can have serious security and demographic implications,” he said.
He demanded strict action against agents, middlemen, landlords and other facilitators wherever their involvement in illegal entry, shelter, trafficking or procurement of fraudulent documents is established. Any financial links with hawala, foreign funding, organised crime or terror networks must also be thoroughly investigated by the competent agencies.
Raina stressed that every case must be handled through proper verification and due process of law. The BJP, he said, demands that the identification, verification and deportation process be accelerated and that the entire ecosystem facilitating illegal immigration be dismantled and punished strictly under the law. ... |
