| People’s Hut Foundation and Indian Army Successfully Conclude Two-Day ‘Sehat Mela’ in Akhnoor | | Benefiting Over 900 Patients | Akhnoor, October 08 (Scoop News)-— Marking a significant outreach in grassroots healthcare, the People’s Hut Foundation, in collaboration with the Indian Army, successfully organized a comprehensive two-day multidisciplinary medical camp themed "Sehat Mela" at Sangha Auditorium, Akhnoor. The outreach received an overwhelming response from the border region, registering a total footfall of 939 beneficiaries, including local villagers, Indian Army veterans, and serving personnel.
The mega camp was honored by the visit of Lieutenant General Mohit Seth, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps (XVI Corps), who visited the Medical stalls alongside senior military officers. Lt. Gen. Seth commended the organizers and the medical fraternity for bringing specialized, diagnostic, and preventive health services directly to rural doorsteps that often face logistical hurdles in accessing tertiary care facilities.
Spearheaded by Dr. Rohit Koul and Dr. Ritu Koul, Directors of the People’s Hut Foundation, the initiative assembled an extensive contingent of specialists. Patients received on-spot consultations across diverse fields, including General Medicine, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Pathology, AYUSH, Clinical Psychology, Nutrition, and ECG diagnostics. Beyond consultations, patients were provided with free allopathic and AYUSH medicines, baseline diagnostics, and essential preventive counseling. Overall coordination for the initiative was managed by Ms. Lalita Sharma, Program Coordinator at People’s Hut Foundation.

A coalition of leading regional healthcare institutions powered the camp’s multidisciplinary reach. Traditional wellness and remedies were delivered by the Directorate of AYUSH, Government of J&K, represented by Medical Officers Dr. Manish Gupta, Dr. Sushil Kumar Bhat, Dr. Neena Sharma, and Pharmacist Mr. Satpal Sharma.
Dr. Rohit Sharma, Senior Orthopedician from Ujala Cygnus JK Medicity, headed the core medical staff and provided advanced orthopedic consultations. Dental services were anchored by Bhagwan Gopinath Ji Trust Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Shikha Bhat, while Fortis Escorts Amritsar contributed specialized medical expertise led by Dr. Priyanka Sharma and coordinated by Mr. Dheeraj Singh. Diagnostic and pathological testing was supported by Metropolis and Dr. Lal PathLabs, led by Mrs. Roshni Manhas, alongside clinical nutrition counseling delivered by Dr. Ashma Choudhary of Nourish.
Comprehensive eye care was divided across both days to maximize reach. Day 1 ophthalmic evaluations were conducted by Sharp Sight Eye Hospital Jammu, managed by Mr. Chetan Sharma alongside Mr. Deepak Sharma, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Optometrist Ms. Kulbeer Kour, and Eye Technician Mr. Vishal. Day 2 eye care services were delivered by a specialized team from Dr. Om Parkash Eye Institute Amritsar, led by senior ophthalmologist Dr. R. K. Mengi and operations manager Mr. Rishi Sharma, supported by optometrists Nazir Hussain Dar and Ritvik Sehgal, alongside clinical support staff.
In a concerted effort to support defense veterans, a dedicated Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) service wing was jointly established by Ujala Cygnus JK Medicity, Sharp Sight Eye Hospital, and Dr. Om Parkash Eye Institute Amritsar in partnership with the People's Hut Foundation.
