| Annual athletics meet begins at NIT Srinagar, 150 students participate | | Srinagar, October 10(Scoop News)-The Annual Athletics Meet (Men and Women) commenced at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, with around 150 students participating in the event organised by the institute’s Student Activity and Sports (SAS) Centre.
The meet aims to promote physical fitness, sportsmanship and healthy competition while encouraging students to balance academic pursuits with sports and extracurricular activities.
Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz Dean Students Welfare said sports and extracurricular activities were essential for the holistic development of students.
“Education is not confined to classrooms. Participation in sports helps students develop leadership, discipline, teamwork and resilience. The institute remains committed to providing students with opportunities to pursue their interests alongside academics,” he said.
Dr Manoj Kumar, In-charge Faculty, SAS, said the event was part of the institute’s efforts to encourage greater participation in sports and fitness activities.
“Sports play an important role in the overall development of students. The athletics meet provides them an opportunity to showcase their abilities, build confidence and develop discipline and a spirit of healthy competition,” he said.
Kowsar Ali Mir, SAS Officer, said the participation of around 150 men and women students reflected the importance of creating opportunities for students to engage in sporting activities.
“We want to encourage more students to participate in sports and make physical fitness an integral part of campus life. Such events also promote teamwork, camaraderie and a healthy competitive spirit,” she said.
Sohail Ahmad Baba, SAS Assistant, said the SAS Centre was working to facilitate student participation and ensure the smooth conduct of sporting activities.
“Events like the annual athletics meet give students a platform to demonstrate their talent and enthusiasm. Our focus is to encourage participation and help students develop an active and healthy lifestyle,” he said. ... |
