More than 200 school leaders were honoured with appreciation certificates and mementos for their contributions to quality education, academic excellence and student development. The event also recognised NEET-2026 achievers and other successful students, acknowledging the efforts of both learners and the educators who guided them.

Education Minister Sakeena Itoo attended as the chief guest. Legislators present included MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah, Former Police Officer & MLA Pattan Javid Riyaz Bedar, MLA Pampore Retd. Justice Hasnain Masoodi, MLA Zainapora Showkat Hussain Ganai, MLA Rajpora Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mir, MLA Khansahab Saif-ud-Din Bhat and MLA Chanapora Mushtaq Guroo as the guests of honor.

Among the prominent attendees were veteran educationist and Private Schools Association (PSA) Chief Patron Dr. G.N. Var; SKIE Classes Chairman Dr. Sheikh Saddam; Director Tahira Gul and hundreds of school chairpersons, principals and educationists.

The conference focused on recognising teachers’ contributions, strengthening cooperation between schools and coaching institutions, promoting innovation in teaching and learning and expanding educational opportunities for students from different social and economic backgrounds.

Addressing the gathering, J&K Education Minister Sakeena Itoo congratulated students who had qualified NEET or achieved success in engineering and other professional fields. She acknowledged that their accomplishments reflected not only students’ hard work but also the dedication of teachers, faculty members and institutional leadership.

Congratulating SKIE Classes Chairman Dr. Sheikh Saddam and his team, the Minister appreciated the institution’s contribution to education and stressed that the true purpose of an educational institution was to help students realise their ambitions.

She said “Education is one of the most important sectors for the development of any state or country. Establishing an institution is not enough; what matters is whether it fulfils its purpose by imparting quality education and helping students move forward in life”.

Referring to the growing presence of coaching centres across Jammu and Kashmir, Sakeena Itoo said institutions must create an environment in which students could learn effectively, develop their abilities and turn their aspirations into achievements.

She also highlighted the government’s efforts to make educational opportunities more accessible and simplify processes affecting educational institutions. Referring to legislative and administrative initiatives, including measures concerning the establishment of private universities in J&K, burden of school NOC’s and the ease-of-doing-business framework, she said such steps were intended to facilitate educational institutions and encourage greater participation in the sector.

The Minister stressed that the success of reforms must ultimately be measured by the opportunities they create for students and the barriers they help remove. Emphasising the need to support children from economically weaker backgrounds, Itoo said financial difficulties should not prevent students from continuing their education or pursuing their ambitions.

She said, “If there are children who need help, we must come forward to support them so that they can progress, achieve their goals and stand on their own feet. Ensuring that every child gets an opportunity to learn must be our collective objective”.

The Education Minister also called for stronger engagement between the Education Department and stakeholders in the private education sector. She invited school representatives to share their suggestions and concerns, assuring them that constructive recommendations would be considered in efforts to improve the education system.

Sakeena Itoo underlined the importance of continued cooperation between policymakers and educators in expanding opportunities and improving educational outcomes.

Addressing the conference, PSA Chief Patron and veteran educationist Dr. G.N. Var welcomed the Education Minister’s participation and highlighted the significance of recent policy initiatives concerning the private education sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

Recalling his longstanding engagement with successive governments on issues affecting educational institutions, Dr. Var said several demands relating to regulatory procedures and the ease of NOCs for educational institutions had remained pending for years.

He credited the Omar Abdullah-led government with advancing some of these demands and appreciated the roles of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Education Minister Sakeena Itoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Cabinet Ministers and legislators who supported the Assembly Bill concerning ease of doing business.

Dr. Var said an education revolution in Jammu and Kashmir required an environment in which schools, coaching centres and other genuine educational institutions could function with accountability and responsibility. He stressed that the success of reforms would depend not only on legislation or policy announcements but also on effective implementation and a supportive environment for educators and institutions.

Dr. Var also raised concerns about the difficulties faced by private schools in previous years, including so many institution closures and called for a constructive approach that protects students’ educational opportunities while maintaining accountability across the sector.

Highlighting private schools’ contribution to education, Dr. Var said their role should be recognised as an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir’s wider education system. He noted that many institutions operated under financial constraints while continuing to educate students from economically weaker families and assisting children unable to afford the full cost of education.

Referring to SKIE Classes, he praised Chairman Dr. Sheikh Saddam for the institution’s contribution and support for students from economically weaker backgrounds. Dr. Var stated that SKIE Classes Chairman has educated more than two lakh students over the few decades and that hundreds of students received free of cost education annually in his coaching institute.

He also acknowledged the engagement of public representatives in addressing issues affecting educational institutions and called for continued dialogue among educators, legislators and the government.

Explaining the vision behind Grand Edu Confluence 2026, SKIE Classes Chairman Dr. Sheikh Saddam said the conference aimed to bridge the gap between schools and coaching institutions while recognising teachers whose contributions often receive limited public attention.

He said a student’s academic journey began well before entering a coaching centre or preparing for a competitive examination. Teachers at the primary, middle and higher secondary school levels play a vital role in developing students’ understanding, confidence, discipline and academic abilities.

He said “The foundation laid by school teachers is extremely important. When students come to coaching institutions, much of the groundwork has already been done in their schools. The dedication and contribution of these teachers must be recognised rather than overlooked”.

Dr. Saddam said the conference brought together educators from government and private institutions to acknowledge their efforts and provide a platform for recognising their contribution to students’ progress.

He added that teachers across both sectors worked to build the academic foundations that prepare children for colleges, universities and professional institutions.

Dr. Saddam Highlighting education’s wider social importance, he said the strength of a society depended substantially on the quality of education available to its people. Education enables young people to acquire knowledge, develop skills, earn livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to society and national development.

While acknowledging the contribution of successive governments, he called for continued investment in initiatives that strengthen teaching, improve learning opportunities and recognise educators’ work.

Another feature of the conference was a presentation on SKIE Classes’ Kashmiri-language learning and reading initiative. The institutes IT department presented an overview of the proposed learning technology and its module, outlining efforts to explore new approaches to language learning and reading.

The presentation added a regional-language dimension to the conference’s focus on educational innovation, highlighting the importance of learning resources that respond to local linguistic needs alongside wider academic and technological developments.

The felicitation ceremony was a major highlight of SKIE Grand Edu Confluence 2026, with more than 200 school education leaders recognised for their contributions to quality education and academic development.

The Education Minister and legislators presented certificates and mementos to school leaders and felicitated successful students, including NEET achievers associated with SKIE Classes.

The recognition highlighted the role of school managements, principals and teachers in nurturing talent, supporting students’ ambitions and preparing them for competitive examinations and higher education.

The Grand Edu Confluence 2026 concluded with a strong message of collective responsibility, collaboration and commitment to educational excellence across Jammu and Kashmir. The conference underscored the need for closer cooperation among policymakers, school leaders, teachers and educational institutions to strengthen the education system and recognise the vital contribution of educators in shaping the future of students.

It also emphasised that every child, regardless of economic background, must have access to quality education and equal opportunities to realise their potential. The conference reaffirmed that meaningful educational progress requires good policies, effective implementation, a supportive environment for educational institutions and a shared commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive education system for the next generation.
