| Two-day eye screening camp begins at NIT Srinagar | | Camp focuses on eye health, examines 332 patients | Srinagar, October 13 (Scoop News)-The Medical Unit of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, in collaboration with Kashmir Eye Hospitals, organised a two-day Mega Eye Screening-cum-Awareness Camp at the institute’s Medical Unit on October 13 and 14. A total of 332 patients were examined and treated on the first day.
The initiative aims to promote eye health awareness among students and encourage regular eye check-ups for the early detection and timely treatment of vision-related problems.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof Anurag Misra, said the institute remains committed to the health and well-being of its students and staff.
“Good health is essential for academic performance and overall development. Initiatives such as this eye screening camp help students understand the importance of preventive healthcare and seeking timely medical advice. We appreciate the collaboration with Kashmir Eye Hospitals in bringing specialised eye-care services to our campus,” he said.
Prof Anurag Misra also stressed the need for doctors and the Medical Unit to focus on screening for glaucoma, a serious eye condition that can lead to irreversible vision loss if not detected and managed in time.
He emphasised the importance of early identification, regular eye examinations and timely referral for specialised treatment to prevent avoidable vision impairment.
Dr Adil Majeed Mir, Director of Kashmir Eye Hospitals, said the camp provided an opportunity for patients to undergo eye examinations and receive medical advice.
“Regular eye check-ups are important for identifying vision-related problems at an early stage. Students often spend long hours reading, studying and using digital screens, making awareness about eye health and timely screening particularly important,” he said.
A team of 12 medical professionals, including Dr Jasiya and Dr Reem Javid, examined and treated patients during the camp and provided guidance on eye care.
Medical Officer at NIT Srinagar, Dr Gowhar Nabi, emphasised the importance of making preventive healthcare an integral part of campus life.
“Many eye-related problems can be managed more effectively when identified early. Students should not ignore symptoms such as blurred vision, eye strain or persistent discomfort and should seek professional advice when needed. Regular screening and awareness can play an important role in protecting eye health,” he said.
Mohammad Abrar Khan, Senior Pharmacist from Medical Unit was the coordinator of the event. The camp will continue on October 14, providing further opportunities for students and others to access eye-screening services and professional guidance.
