The NPP Chief described Mohiuddin Malik as an exemplary Kashmiri leader who refused to play as a tool in the hands of Sheikh Abdullah in the Assembly. The feud between Mirza Afzal Beg and Sheikh Abdullah surfaced on the scene, Mirza Afzal Beg lost his ministerial job and subjected to humiliation rather stood totally neglected inside and outside the Assembly. It was speaker Mohiuddin Malik who refused to ignore the second tallest Kashmiri leader rather functioned under rules to conduct the business of the House which irked Sheikh Abdullah. Prof. Bhim Singh said that he cannot forget the occasion when the leader of the House, Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah asked his MLAs to throw out Mohiuddin Malik from the speaker’s chair while the House was functioning. Two, the then, MLAs namely, Mohd. Shafi Uri and G.M. Rather rushed to the podium to throw out Mohiuddin Malik. Bhim Singh recollected that it was he who rushed to the speaker’s side and pushed away both the NC MLAs to save Mohiuddin Malik from incurring physical injury. The House was adjourned. The NC MLAs under the leadership of Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah held a closed door session on the floor of the Assembly declaring Mohiuddin Malik expelled as speaker. Prof. Bhim Singh said that it was he who along with Mohiuddin Malik rushed to Delhi and filed two separate petitions in the Supreme Court against unconstitutional and unjust decision to expel Mohiuddin Malik as a speaker. It was on his petition that the Supreme Court of India stayed the order directing Sheikh Abdullah to act in accordance with the rules of procedure and the Constitution. Bhim Singh said that when he along with Mohiuddin reached the front gates of the Assembly to submit the Supreme Court order to the Secretary of the Assembly, they were attacked by NC activists. The entire Assembly building was in flames and entire Assembly records had turned into ashes. There was nothing left on record to present to the Supreme Court. Since then Mohiuddin Malik has been in touch with him (Bhim Singh). Mohiuddin Malik was a great Kashmiri leader with nationalist and secular outlook. He has died on 1st September, 2012 at a time when Kashmir needed him more under the present situation. Mohiuddin Malik was equally ignored by the State Congress leaders, may be, they were feeling insecure in his presence in the Congress.
