JK Assembly pays tributes to Malik, Piara Singh | Observes 2-minute silence |  Srinagar, October 01 (Scoop News) -The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today adopted obituary references on the sad demise of Ex-Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Malik Mohi-ud-Din and Ex-MLC, Sardar Piara Singh. Paying glorious tributes to late Malik Mohi-ud-Din, the Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly said that he was born on 31st July, 1936 at Pampore and left for heavenly abode on 29th of August, 2012. The Speaker said after completing his MA LLB from Aligarh Muslim University, he started practice as an advocate in the year 1958 at Pulwama Court and thereafter in J&K High Court Srinagar. He remained associated with the Freedom Movement (Quit Kashmir) from his school days and after 1953 he joined Plebiscite Front. He was jailed many a times for being associated with Freedom movement. The Speaker said that he was instrumental in converting Plebiscite Front into National Conference. He also assisted Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg during his talks with G. Parthasarthy which culminated into historical Indira-Abdullah accord of 1975. Describing Malik Mohi-ud-Din, as a man of high stature, the Speaker said that late Malik Mohi-ud-Din was also being considered as a constitutional expert, renowned Parliamentarian and a legal luminary. He successfully contested the general election of 1977 as NC candidate from Pampore constituency and was unanimously elected Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on 8th September 1977. He also served as Chairman State Branch of Common Wealth Parliamentary Association and as member of Indo Arab Cultural Society. Lone said that as an epitome of wisdom and intellect he served the people of the state in different capacities throughout his life. The contributions of late leader towards the welfare of the state are unforgettable. While paying tributes to Sadar Piara Singh, Lone said that he was elected as Member J&K Legislative Council twice in 1963 and 1980 as a National Conference candidate. He held various assignments viz; Director J&K Marketing and Supply Co-operative Federation, Member District Gurdawara Prabandhak Committee, Member J&K State Gurdawara Prabandhak Board and Director Jammu Rural Bank. He worked hard for the betterment of the poor and the down trodden sections of the society throughout his life. He has contributed a lot for maintaining peace and communal harmony during the Indo-PaK wars of 1965 and 1971 for which he will be remembered forever. PDP President, Mrs. Mehbooba Mufti, while paying tributes to the departed leaders said late Malik Mohi-ud-Din served his duty as Speaker most impartially and upheld the sanctity of the chair despite facing odds. She said that Malik Mohi-ud-Din brought many reforms in the Assembly Secretariat to improve the functioning of the legislature and described him the epitome of wisdom, knowledge and intellect. She also paid tribute to Sardar Piara Singh adding that he served, not only for Sikh community but for all the down trodden sections of the society. She also condemned the killing of Panchs and Sarpanchs and said that their demise should also be included in the obituary references. Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta while recalling his association with Ex-Speaker, late Malik Mohi-ud-Din said that he was sincere and dutiful person who spend his life for the service of the people. He said only those people need to be elected who can serve the people with dedication. He on the behalf of him and the members of his organization paid tributes to the Legislator Sardar Piara Singh also. DPN, Chairman, Ghulam Hassan Mir in his tributes to the departed leaders said the Malik Mohi-ud-Din played a significant role in the House as well as in the State politics. He said such sincere leaders do come rarely and his role has been historic owing to his contribution to the whole society. He said Sardar Piara Singh was a down to earth politician and service to humanity was mission of his life. M. Y. Tarigami in his tributes said that Malik Mohi-ud-Din is a role model and his contribution in freedom movement will be remembered for long. He said, the late leader worked shoulder to shoulder with Sher-i-Kashmir and Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg. He always remained sticked to his principles and ideology like a rock and never compromised on it. He also paid rich tribute to Sardar Piara Singh and described him a staunch believer of progressive ideology. He also paid tributes to those elected panchs and sarpanchs who were killed recently and said elements involved in these heinous crimes should realize that such acts only add to the hardships and difficulties of the people. Paying tributes to the Former Speaker of J&K Legislative Assembly, the MLA and the President People’s Democratic Front, Mr Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said that he was not only a great lawyer, but a staunch worker of the Mahaz-Rai Shumari and National Conference. He said, late leader had played a significant role in the historical Indira- Abdullah- Accord in 1975.He said that his contribution in the socio economic development will be remembered for long. He also paid rich tributes to MLC, Sardar Piara Singh and added that he was a noble personality. He said that both the leaders were down to earth and were committed to the uplift of the downtrodden. The MLA, and National Conference Leader, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan while paying tributes to the deceased leaders, said Malik Mohi-ud-Din was well versed with the Assembly rules and regulation and conducted the proceedings of the Assembly strictly according to these rules. He said that he was a close associate of Sher-i-Kashmir and Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg and an ace parliamentarian. Chowdhary also paid rich tributes to the former MLC, Sardar Piara Singh and said that Ex-MLC was not committed only to the welfare of the Sikh community but also for the development of all sections of the society. Jugal Kishore prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families. He also highlighted their contribution in the political and social setup of the state. Ashwani Kumar Sharma while recounting the contributions of Ex-Speaker said that he had played historical role in the political scenario of the state. He urged that “we should follow the path shown by him and to learn to serve the people”. Paying rich tributes to S. Piara Singh, he said that he was staunch leader of Jammu region. He was elected as President Parbandk Committee and Chairman of Jammu Rural Bank. Engineer Rashid also paid rich tributes to the departed leaders and recounted their contribution in the political and social fabric of the state. While condemning the killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs, he said such killings by any agency is highly condemnable. Paying tributes to Malik Mohi-ud-Din, Mohammad Sharief Niaz said that late leader belonged to a middle class family and with the hard work rose to the heights of fame and prominence. He said that he was leader of masses and played a vital role in Indira-Abdullah accord. He also paid glorious tributes to Sardar Piara Singh and said that he was always on the forefront in solving the problems of people. The House passed a resolution unanimously to condemn the Blasphemous video film which has hurt the sentiments of the people especially Muslim community. The House also unanimously condemned the recent killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs. On the desire of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the House also passed obituary reference on the demise of ex-Union Minister and Maharashtra Chief Minister, late. Vilas Rao Deshmukh. Later, the House observed two minutes silence in remembrance of the departed leaders and to convey sympathies with bereaved families. ... |
