| IKFS Condoles the death of Ulma Sayid Azhari | | 
Kuwait, November 25 (Scoop News)-Indo-Kuwait Friendship Society (IKFS)condoled the death of Sayid Azhari Thangal, former President of Samastha Kerala Jamyiyyathul Ulama of Kerala State, India.
IKFS in a statement said that Sayid Azhari Thangal was also was Associate Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence in the world renowned Al Azhar University in Egypt.
Statement said that Dr. Ghalib Al-Mashoor, President of IKFS, who also learned in 1991-1992 from Nasr Islamic Institute, (Governed by Azhar University), Heliopolis, was the long term friend of Azhari Thangal.
The formation of Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama was the response of the traditional to the conditions of post 1921 Malabar Rebellion period in which Kerala Muslim community generally witnessed a radical shift from the folds of individual leadership to the folds of organizations. The Ulama felt the need to organize to defend and protect Kerala's Islamic tradition and to wage a revivalist movement against the new interpretations.
In 1925, some major Ulama's and other society leaders gathered at Calicut Valiya Juma Masjid and formed an Ulama organization after prolonged and serious discussions. They traveled throughout the state to convey the message of the Ulama organization to maximum religious scholars who were living in the mosques or religious centers serving the Islamic knowledge. There are about 10000 madrasas for children and hundreds of Islamic colleges working under Samastha Kerala Jami’yyathul Ulama and Most of the mosques in the state are registered under this great organisation.
Under this organisation there are special wings working to develop the Islamic education as well as to look after the youth and students.Samastha Kerala Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board(SKIMVB),Samastha Kerala Jami’yyathul mua’llimeen(SKJM), Sunni Yuvajana Sangam(SYS),samstha kerala sunni students federation (SKSSF)and Sunni Mahallu Federation(SMF) are the most important wings.
A year later on June 26, 1926, a bigger convention was called at Calicut Town hall, where eminent scholars from across the state participated, under the chairmanship of Sayyid Shihabuddhin Cherukunchikkoya Thangal. The convention reorganized the previously formed temporary organization and adopted a full fledged organizational set up in the name of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama. Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama (S. K. J. U.) is the religious organization of a Sunni faction Muslim scholars and clerics of the Indian state of Kerala. It is the largest Muslim (Mappila) faction in Kerala in terms of number of followers and is known widely after the cleric E. K. Aboobacker Musliar, the former leader of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama. Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama's supreme body and the working committee is called the Mushawara. C Koya Kutty Musliyar and Cherussery Zainuddeen Musliyar are the current President and General Secretary of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama respectively. Al-Azhari Thangal aged 95 years earlier visited Kuwait by the invitation of various Indian Associations in Kuwait. Several interviews with Kuwaiti national newspapers in Arabic language was given by Azhari Thangal, whose ancestors are from Yemen. Dr. Al-Mashoor said in the condolence message that India has lost one of the finest and peer Islamic scholars who have had an excellent Arabic literature command in Journalism and speech and his loss cannot be replaced by any among the top most Islamic Institutions. Azhari Thangal has written several books both in Arabic and Malayalam. Azhari Thangal has been holding 2 degrees from Vellors Baqiaat Salihat (Named as Baqawi) and Dayuband’s Al-Qasmi, in addition to post graduate degrees from Al-Azhar University of Cairo. He was the associated professor of Isalmic studies at Riyadh University as well as Libyan University in 1980s.
